Sometimes I’m An “Atheist Christian”

Girl laying in field knowing God made us

In the deepest part of who God made us, we long to possess goodness and purity because we know it somehow brings us closer to something supernaturally wonderful. Even a self-professing unbeliever who adamantly denies the existence of God cannot squelch His knowledge of God. God placed irrefutable knowledge of Himself—inside each one of us.

“For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭1:20-21

The complexity of the universe proclaims order and design. Thus, it takes monumental faith to deny the existence of a Master Creator in favor of a theory that is opposed to what we observe. Even in buildings and machines we observe the obvious proof of engineering and design; so to deny the existence of a Master Engineer for the far more complex universe is—a great leap of faith. The Bible characterizes this denial of God’s existence rather more bluntly:

“The fool has said in his heart, ‘There is no God.'”

Psalms‬ ‭14:1‬

But, let me tell you—even us born-again Christians can be fools when it comes to believing in God. The PROOF of our belief in God is manifested in our love. Jesus said:

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

John‬ ‭13:34-35‬

Are you known PREDOMINANTLY as having genuine love for people?

Ouch!

If we are predominantly known by something less than our love for God and others, should we even call ourselves Christians?

Essentially, we’re really practicing atheism and pretending to be a Christian.

If we want to represent Christ, we must live like we know Him. When we really know God, we glorify Him as God, we are thankful, and we are most characterized by our love. (Romans 1:21 above) We ALL worship something or someone. We were created to worship—that is, to have something or someone be the focus of our greatest thoughts and dreams.

What we LOVE most is—proof of what we BELIEVE.

God’s love flowing FROM us is proof that Christ is alive WITHIN us.

When we make God the LORD or our life, meaning He directs every part of it; we desire to conform our life to His will. We want to act and think like Him. And we want Him to be the center of our worship and adoration. God gives us His Word and His Spirit to purify our heart so we can love like He does!

Basic Bible Concepts: Part 9 Spiritual Growth

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you, when they revile and persecute you and say, all kinds of evil against you falsely, for my sake, rejoice and be exceeding. Glad for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” ~Matthew 5:10-12
