This Powerful Prayer: “O LORD, Order My Day.”

It seems like each day that passes I go to sleep further behind on my “to do” list, so God is teaching me to lift up a simple prayer throughout the day:

“Lord, order my day.”

It works—and will multiply your peace at the end of the day—when you understand HOW it works.

Let me share an example. Last Friday felt so much like a Monday, that I was calling it “Fronday.” I was so overwhelmed by the demands of ministry, my own personal needs, and law practice deadlines that I didn’t even know where to even begin. I began to pray this Psalm:

“Order my steps in Thy Word and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.”

Psalms 119:133

Before I tell you what God did, let me give you some back story pertaining to the second part of that verse. God has been challenging me about some behaviors and habits I need to omit from my life. These are life-long habits and—it’s been a great struggle. But—God knows the desire of my heart is to please Him. He ALSO knows my enemies—one of them being, my flesh—better than I do. He has been revealing these enemy-strongholds in my life and helping me to get rid of them so sin does not dominate me. This places my heart in a position for God to “order my steps.”

Sin’s dominion over us is wrecked when we desire God more than we desire our own way; and that’s when—He will order our steps!

Now—back to my experience last Friday. As I prayed “Lord order my steps,” that’s exactly what He did. It was unbelievable. In fact, by following God’s “order” I was done with my long list of work projects by early afternoon, and was free for the rest of the day for my ministry and personal errands. And to think, that just a few hours earlier—I thought I’d be working all weekend! It was surreal.

We make our life a lot better when we allow God to be in charge! Remember WHO He is and WHAT He does:

“Who has directed the Spirit of the Lord, or who gave Him His counsel? Who did He consult with? Who gave Him understanding and taught Him the paths of justice? Who taught Him knowledge and showed Him the way of understanding?

Look, the nations are like a drop in a bucket; they are considered as a speck of dust in the scales; He lifts up the islands like fine dust.

Who will you compare God with? What likeness will you compare Him to?

To an idol? — something that a smelter casts, and a metalworker plates with gold and makes silver welds for it? To one who shapes a pedestal, choosing wood that does not rot? He looks for a skilled craftsman to set up an idol that will not fall over.

Do you not know? Have you not heard? Has it not been declared to you from the beginning? Have you not considered the foundations of the earth? God is enthroned above the circle of the earth; its inhabitants are like grasshoppers. He stretches out the heavens like thin cloth and spreads them out like a tent to live in. He reduces princes to nothing and makes judges of the earth irrational. They are barely planted, barely sown, their stem hardly takes root in the ground when He blows on them and they wither, and a whirlwind carries them away like stubble. “Who will you compare Me to, or who is My equal? ” asks the Holy One.

Look up and see: who created these? He brings out the starry host by number; He calls all of them by name. Because of His great power and strength, not one of them is missing. Do you not know? Have you not heard? Yahweh is the everlasting God, the Creator of the whole earth. He never grows faint or weary; there is no limit to His understanding.

He gives strength to the weary and strengthens the powerless. Youths may faint and grow weary, and young men stumble and fall, but those who trust in the Lord will renew their strength; they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not faint.”‭‭
