Only God Can Fund Our Greatest Opportunities

Share

opportunities

Yesterday, we celebrated Patriot Day and remembered the life of COL Rescorla. I was inspired to live like he did, weren’t you? I wondered how many missed opportunities my self-serving habits have already cost me.

Contemplate the narrative that has woven through the tapestry of your life thus-far.

Does your purpose extend beyond mere personal ambitions and the confines of your own circle? Amidst the current culture, fixated on fleeting pleasures and the capricious definition of self, the prevailing doctrine of self-indulgence casts a shadow over the grandeur of meaningful stories. Pause to reflect on those who sacrificed for our freedom. What would they urge us to etch upon the annals of time? Will our identified purpose hold sway not just today, but in the long sweep of time—a year from now, a decade, a century? Ah, God’s Word holds the timeless truth:

The greatest opportunities are not found in the pursuit of self, but rather in living by the example of Jesus’ selfless, boundless giving.

We have the opportunity to walk in the footsteps of Jesus. Yet, the quandary lingers: How can our life pour forth generosity without concern for depletion of our own resources? A legitimate inquiry, indeed; to which God has an answer!

He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.

And God is ABLE to make ALL grace abound toward you, that you, always having ALL sufficiency in ALL things, may have an ABUNDANCE for every good work.

Now may He who supplies seed to the sower, and bread for food, supply and multiply the seed you have sown and increase the fruits of your righteousness, while you are ENRICHED in EVERYTHING for all liberality, which causes thanksgiving through us to God. ‬‬

2 Corinthians‬ ‭9‬:‭6‬-‭8‬, ‭10‬-‭11

Our solitary source of life is—God, the Creator and sustainer of all things. He must be the center of our life. Only GOD can support a completely selfless life. He never runs out of anything! When we surrender our life to Him for salvation, the foundation of giving is laid. We know that we need Him more than anything. From this glorious foundation, flows rivers of eternal blessings for us to share! As we pursue Him and live in heart-obedience to Jesus, the fruit of God’s Spirit grows and flows. We are like that tree planted by the rivers of water in Psalms 1. When we are constantly bending our temporal desires to God, He gives us so much to give that we generously make space at our table. We are able to give the best things in life away—love, joy, kindness, peace, patience—without expectation. Our greatest expectation is in God.

Living in the will of God, we are free to GIVE without FEAR of EVER running out!

Pure selflessness comes from God and it begets—infectious joy, peace that defies crisis, and gentleness in the face of conflict. It births kindness devoid of ulterior motives, humility untethered to the need for validation, forgiveness which is given time and again. Unforgiveness is the quickest way to close off the faucet of God’s blessings and have nothing to share. The fruit of God’s Spirit allows us to live selflessly and to reap a harvest that will follow us into eternity.

Only God can afford to fund His brand of love; He funds our greatest opportunities!

Basic Bible Concepts: Part 9 Spiritual Growth

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you, when they revile and persecute you and say, all kinds of evil against you falsely, for my sake, rejoice and be exceeding. Glad for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” ~Matthew 5:10-12
