Misinformation: What Can We Do When It Seems That Truth Is No More?

Share

truth

In a world where the truth is defined by each individual and misinformation is rampant, it should not surprise us to see a significant uptick of lawlessness. Our foundations are crumbling. People are more anxious and hopeless than ever!

What can one person do to make a difference???

We need to know the truth of God’s Word AND we need to know WHO we are and WHY we are here! We CAN make ALL the difference! This situation is no surprise for God. From the beginning of time our enemy has been trying to rewrite the truth. In the Garden he told Eve that the fruit would make her wise instead of killing her soul. In our current culture, we are told we can create our own truth even if it deviates from God’s timeless truth. The result?

Justice is turned back, and righteousness stands afar off; For truth is fallen in the street, and equity CANNOT enter. ‬ ‬‬

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭59‬:‭14

There will NEVER be justice or equity without God’s truth. With the abandonment of God’s Word we find ourselves tethered to the beguiling misinformation of politicians, pundits, social media influencers, and the world’s cultural heroes. In the realm of vital issues these self-appointed guardians of “truth” sow seeds of confusion, nurturing a culture tainted by darkness, injustice, fear, greed, lust, etc. which is causing extreme anxiety.

This maelstrom of anxiety is no revelation to God.

It is the natural outcome of forsaking God’s unchanging truth and a relationship with Him. WHY did Isaiah write that there was no justice and equity could not enter? It was the result of a culture that endorsed sin:

Your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, your tongue has muttered perversity.

No one calls for justice, nor does any plead for truth.

They trust in empty words and speak lies; they conceive evil and bring forth iniquity. The way of peace they have not known, and there is no justice in their ways; they have made themselves crooked paths; whoever takes that way shall NOT know peace.

We look for light, but there is darkness! For brightness, but we walk in blackness! We grope for the wall like the blind, and we grope as if we had no eyes; we stumble at noonday as at twilight; we are as dead men in desolate places.

For our transgressions are multiplied before You, and our sins testify against us; for our transgressions are with us, and as for our iniquities, we know them [BY]:

  • Transgressing and lying against the Lord,
  • Departing from our God,
  • Speaking oppression and revolt,
  • Conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood.
From ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭59‬:‭3‬-‭4‬, ‭8‬-‭10‬, ‭12‬-‭13

This TOTAL lack of peace and off-the-charts anxiety describes the world today, doesn’t it???

But, my friend, for those of us who have accepted the gift of salvation and are passionately pursuing a relationship with God—WE can turn back the tide! Jesus, the Prince of Peace, conquered the abyss of ultimate evil—eternal death. Those who belong to Him possess the gift of eternal life, beyond the grasp of any usurper. Christ’s promise gives us unwavering certainty:

“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand.”

John‬ ‭10‬:‭27‬-‭29

When we are Christ’s sheep—living in complete surrender to Him—He gives us the strength and confidence of a lion.

Each day, as we put on the whole armor of God the truth becomes our foundation, courage finds its wellspring, and fear becomes a fleeting specter.

When the God of truth lives within us, we need not live in fear because “if God is for us, who can stand against us?” (Romans‬ ‭8:31)‬‬

Basic Bible Concepts: Part 9 Spiritual Growth

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you, when they revile and persecute you and say, all kinds of evil against you falsely, for my sake, rejoice and be exceeding. Glad for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” ~Matthew 5:10-12
