Just How Big Do We Think The God We Serve Is?

By Grace Edwards

Just how big do we believe the God we serve is? Truly it doesn’t matter what WE think, because HE IS. However, are we willing to prayerfully and boldly ask of Him the things that “scare what is scared within us”? (Quote from Girls with Swords by Lisa Bevere)

I found this phrase in a book I am reading and I love it! If I am not praying the type of prayers that scare me because of their “huge-ness,” my prayers are certainly not going to scare or frighten the devil. As Christians, we serve a God who has personally experienced our temptations and struggles. (Hebrews 4:15). Furthermore, He overcame them, and has given us provision to be His own children and use that same power to overcome.

“If any of you lacks wisdom [to guide him through a decision or circumstance], he is to ask of [our benevolent] God, who gives to everyone generously and without rebuke or blame, and it will be given to him. But he must ask [for wisdom] in faith, without doubting [God’s willingness to help], for the one who doubts is like a billowing surge of the sea that is blown about and tossed by the wind.

For such a person ought not to think or expect that he will receive anything [at all] from the Lord, being a double-minded man, unstable and restless in all his ways [in everything he thinks, feels, or decides].

Let the brother in humble circumstances glory in his high position [as a born-again believer, called to the true riches and to be an heir of God]; and the rich man is to glory in being humbled [by trials revealing human frailty, knowing true riches are found in the grace of God], for like the flower of the grass he will pass away.”

James 1:5‭-‬10

As God’s children, we have the privilege to boldly “approach the throne of grace [that is, the throne of God’s gracious favor] with confidence and without fear, so that we may receive mercy [for our failures] and find [His amazing] grace to help in time of need [an appropriate blessing, coming just at the right moment].” (Hebrews 4:16)

God DOES care about your heart’s desires and He IS a good Father who wants to give His children above and beyond what they could ever imagine!
