How To Live Your Exceedingly Fragile Life With Prime Confidence

law office fragile life

How often do we remember how truly fragile life is? How fallible we are as humans? One morning while I was working away at my law office reviewing cases, getting ready for trials, and talking to clients, something happened that shook me to the core. I discovered a serious mistake in one of my cases.

Sometimes I take my job for granted and forget what a blessing it is to be able to serve in this unique capacity. Most of the time, I truly enjoy my job. I count it a great privilege to serve people. But what if I made a mistake that cost me my law license? It could happen. After all, I am human. Despite the fact that my staff and I try to do our very best—we are all just one misstep away from an action which could cause irreversible consequences for a client or which could cause me to lose my law license. Well, on that day—I discovered something in a file that made me think “it” had happened. I was floored!

The thought of not being able to practice law flashed through my mind and I was devastated!

I sat at my desk, completely stunned. I knew it was an honest oversight. It was a mistake that would, thankfully, NOT have consequences for my client. But it could have serious ramifications for my license. Suddenly I faced the reality of how fragile, life as I knew it, was. My first question to God was: “Has my law practice become more important to me than You?” While it’s true that my law practice is one of my primary mission fields (many have been born again sitting in the chairs in front of my desk), I wondered if I had made it a “god.” In other words, was it what I thought about and depended upon the most? My friend, we can make any “ministry” more important than God.

Would the loss of my profession derail me?

That morning—I had to stop working and do some soul-searching. I did NOT want my fragile professional life to be the anchor and hope of my life so much so that if I were to lose it—I would be devastated. I wanted ALMIGHTY God—who is NEVER lost or derailed—to be the greatest focus of my thoughts and hope. So, I asked Him to reveal the part of me that I couldn’t see. To shine HIS light of truth inside me. He certainly did and revealed that my priorities had shifted. I then asked Him to forgive me and help me re-order my “loves”. In my HEAD, I knew that my relationship with HIM was the best part of my life; but that knowledge needed it to be in my HEART.

I truly desire for God to be my greatest passion for living!

After spending some time with God that morning and re-surrendering every part of myself to Him (which I find to be necessary every day), I told Him that I completely trusted Him—come what may with my law practice. It was HIS—to do with—what HE thought best. God used this incident to reveal to me that there was an area in my life that I didn’t realize had become more important to me than Him. For the remainder of the day, every time I felt the anxiety about the situation arising, I gave my law practice back to God. “God this is YOUR law practice; my heart is committed to YOU; and now it is YOUR problem.” Seriously—that was my prayer. The more I moved through the day, the more confident I became in God’s plan. The law practice in and of itself became smaller; and I began to greatly anticipate the magnificence of God’s NEW plan!

This TOUGH circumstance was leading me into another great adventure; another testimony of God’s greatness; another opportunity for spiritual growth; and another experience to bring glory to GOD!

I was ready! At the very end of the work day, I was getting ready to leave the office and God prompted me to look in the file again. I couldn’t believe it! I cried. We had NOT made a mistake. There it was in black and white. I was humbled but I was also profoundly grateful for this experience. Immediately, I asked God to help me NEVER again make my job more important than HIM. I asked Him to remind me to daily give Him my practice. My friend…

Without God…I am nothing; I have nothing; and I have no purpose; but WITH God…I am complete and perpetually satisfied. With Him, my fragile life has meaning!

And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. This is the first commandment.

‭‭Mark‬ ‭12‬:‭30‬ ‭NKJV

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. ‬‬

‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭2‬:‭10‬ ‭NKJV

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. ‭‭

Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭28‬ NKJV

When we live for God’s glory, the fragility of our circumstances is dwarfed by the power of His presence!

Basic Bible Concepts: Part 9 Spiritual Growth

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you, when they revile and persecute you and say, all kinds of evil against you falsely, for my sake, rejoice and be exceeding. Glad for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” ~Matthew 5:10-12
