God’s Word is critical for living a satisfied life. The Word has a power that is unlike any other book because—it is Jesus. It has existed since the beginning. All things were created as the Word was dispatched across the vast expanse of nothing.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”
John 1:1-5, 14
Take some time to meditate on the amazing benefits of God’s Word!
The Word is our most basic source of sustenance:
Jesus said: “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.'”
Matthew 4:4
The Word is alive and powerful:
“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
Hebrews 4:12
Obedience to the Word keeps us from being deceived so we can become wise and strong:
“But be DOERS of the word, and not HEARERS ONLY, deceiving yourselves.”
James 1:22
“Therefore whoever HEARS these sayings of Mine, and DOES them, I will liken him to a WISE man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock…But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a FOOLISH man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”
Matthew 7:24-27
The Word revives and strengthens our soul:
“My soul clings to the dust; REVIVE me according to Your Word. My soul melts from heaviness; STRENGTHEN me according to Your word.”
Psalms 119:25, 28
The Word gives us new life and hope when we are afflicted:
“Unless Your law had been my delight, I would then have perished in my affliction. I will never forget Your precepts, For by them You have given me LIFE.”
Psalms 119:92-93
The Word is our light in the dark world:
“Thy word is a LAMP unto my feet, And a LIGHT unto my path.”
Psalm 119:105
“Open my eyes, that I may SEE wondrous things from Your law.”
Psalms 119:18
God’s Word is as essential to the satisfaction of our soul as breath is to sustain our body. When reading and studying it is part of our day, our soul is continually satisfied.
In this series of devotionals we explored the basic tools God gives us to live a completely satisfying life. By passionately pursuing His presence according to His Word, we have the tools we need. In God’s presence, we can awaken every morning and KNOW—no matter what the circumstances—He does not change and thus, our soul has more than enough to live a satisfying life!
“The Lord will guide you continually, and satisfy your soul in drought, and strengthen your bones; you shall be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.”
Isaiah 58:11
“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.”
Psalms 1:1-3
