Everyone wants to feel valued for who they are—-but to whom do we look for that value? What will give us an unwavering sense of worth? Can we get this from a child, a spouse, a parent, or a friend? Can we give it to ourselves?
What makes gold or diamonds valuable? What turns a regular person—into a superstar? What makes a Lamborghini worth more than a Hyundai? Is it the innate—sparkle, shine, talent, or speed—of the thing or person? OR, is it the people—who attribute that the characteristics of the person or thing—DESERVE great value? Gold and diamonds do not make themselves valuable—our culture did. Angelina Jolie did not become famous simply because—she believed she should be—rather, her fans made her a star. The smooth brain of an infant does not find value in either gold or diamonds, nor does he swoon over a movie star. He instinctively prefers his mother or father. It is his culture that teaches him WHAT or WHOM he should value.
What we treasure, reveals much about where we get our worth.
To possess a sense of incalculable value, we must learn that not only are we INCAPABLE of establishing it for ourselves, but—we should NOT depend upon receiving it from other humans who are also desperate for the same thing! A painting does not establish its own value—the artist does; and a beggar doesn’t have much food to offer a starving child. But don’t despair! God has provided a way for us to know our pricelessness!!!
You see, our Heavenly Father thought WE were worth the life of His Son.
The value He places on each of us is so far beyond what we can imagine! We are His masterpiece, but we often don’t know it because we have never really sought to know HIM. After we are born again, we must seek to KNOW HIM and constantly be reminded of our great redemption!
“[K]nowing that you were NOT redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.”
1 Peter 1:18-19
My friend, until we are born again AND until we seek God with all our heart, soul, and mind—we will never begin to know our true value.
We know our value when we seek God—more than we seek anything. Jesus explained this over 2,000 years ago:
“Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap, which have neither storehouse nor barn; and God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds? And which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?
If you then are not able to do the least, why are you anxious for the rest?
Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. If then God so clothes the grass, which today is in the field and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will He clothe you, O you of little faith?
And do not seek what you should eat or what you should drink, nor have an anxious mind. For all these things the nations of the world seek after, and your Father knows that you need these things.
But seek the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added to you.
Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.
Sell what you have and give alms; provide yourselves money bags which do not grow old, a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches nor moth destroys.
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
Luke 12:24-34 NKJV
What we treasure produces our value.
When God is the greatest treasure of our heart, we think, speak and act more like Him. In return, He reveals the pricelessness of our life.
When God is our center, we know our inestimable worth.
