When I learned Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, my instructor taught me techniques to defend myself—even against people who are stronger and larger. The more I practiced, the more natural the moves became. I remember the first time my technical moves went from being stiff and awkward to instinctive and reactionary. The practice paid off, muscle memory kicked-in and it was so exciting! That was the goal right—otherwise, what was the point in learning?
Don’t you think the same should be said for our Christianity?
My friends, we are in a spiritual warfare against enemies that WILL crush us if we don’t know what we’re doing. Do you want to know HOW to win the daily battle? We NEED to be completely armed with EVERY weapon and technique God gives us to defeat the enemy who “walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” (I Peter 5:8) He can also be sneaky. He disguises himself in our flesh (unholy carnal desires) and in the world system (which embraces humanism over God’s Word). He works overtime to convince us that GOD and His ways are not the best for us. (That’s what he did in Eden—right?)
So….how badly do you WANT to win against this enemy?
-This is no casual war.
-Jesus didn’t pay a casual price to ransom us from the enemy and…
…the greatest measure of our thankfulness to God for what He has done for us is manifested in how we live for Him.
We must practice spiritual principles so much that they become ingrained in our spiritual muscle memory! Living for God begins on the inside and works its way out—not the other way around. When we are born again, we possess powerful tools. We have His holy, powerful, loving, and wise presence living within us. We also have His Word that is “[alive] and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit…and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12)
God has given us a HUGE advantage over the enemy!
By making God the center of our life, we engage all the resources He has provided against the enemy. Once we’ve seen His presence and His Word powerfully at work, we NEVER want to live without being in the center of His will.
“My flesh and my heart fail; But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. For indeed, those who are far from You shall perish; You have destroyed all those who desert You for harlotry [unfaithfulness to God]. But it is good for me to draw near to God; I have put my trust in the Lord God, That I may declare all Your works.”
Psalms 73:26-28
