In the previous devotional, I drew a comparison between navigating life’s darkest valleys and walking along a road in an unexpected downpour. I emphasized the importance of providing genuine support to someone in need rather than just offering empty encouragement. Specifically, I highlighted the significance of seeking shelter from the storm instead of merely standing in the rain next to them. In the ideal scenario, I suggested that a friend would create space in their vehicle, allowing the person to take refuge from the storm. In this analogy, the vehicle represents the “truths of God.”
It is important to note that the vehicle does not make the storm disappear or magically cleanse the person from the rain and mud. However, the vehicle serves as a place of shelter and offers a true perspective on the storm.
Some of these “truths of God” include:
God is in control of everything, including our current circumstances (Isaiah 40).
He will never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5).
He is concerned with all of our worries, needs, and anxieties, encouraging us to cast them upon Him (1 Peter 5:7).
He hears us when we speak to Him (Psalm 86:5-8).
He will meet all of our needs (Philippians 4:19).
He is constant and unchanging (Hebrews 13:8).
He will never abandon us, empowering us to be strong and courageous (Joshua 1:9).
Nothing and no one can separate us from His love (Romans 8:35-39).
The family in the vehicle symbolizes the church, which is meant to be a welcoming community where people support and assist one another. It should also serve as a place of refuge where individuals can find shelter from life’s storms (1 Corinthians 12:25-26). Furthermore, it should be a community where those who have experienced great mercy can extend that mercy to others. (1 Peter 2:9-10)
As we endeavor to comfort those facing extraordinary and tragic circumstances, I encourage you to take a moment and ask God to help you step aside and let Him work through you. Seek to be a vessel through which His love flows as you assist those in need, especially in situations that surpass human understanding. Devoting time to being in His presence each day will grant you the wisdom and discernment necessary to approach those who are hurting. When someone’s hopes and dreams crumble and their lives come to a standstill, sometimes the best course of action is to pause and simply be there for them.
Your time spent in God’s presence will grant you a “peace that surpasses all understanding” (Philippians 4:7) and will “guide you into all truth.” (John 16:13)

Wow! First of all, Congratulations on finishing up your cancer treatment! What a huge milestone!
God has certainly given you a platform with all of those pieces that you shared! It sounds like you have a unique story and if you let Him, He will show you exactly who needs your encouragement.
I also encourage you to find a local, New Testament church to join and serve with. There is so much power to tap into when we are joined together with other like-minded believers!
