Why God’s Will Seems To Be A Great Mystery When—It Is NOT.

It seems like we, as Christians, like to think that knowing God’s will for our life is some kind of great mystery.

God’s will for our life is NOT hidden.

WHY would God do that to us?

That would be like a dad telling his 9 year old son: “I have made a plan for you today and your life will be much better if you follow it—but I’m not going to give you the instructions.”  God wrote His instructions for every situation and every person in the Bible. He broke it down Barney-style with the 10 commandments. Then, Jesus made is stupid-simple by saying His entire instruction manual is summed up in two basic rules:

  1. Love God with all your heart, soul and mind; and,
  2. Love your neighbor as yourself. (Mark 12:30-31)

Yet—we often expect the great bill-board in the sky to show us God’s will—right? We develop quite the angst because we don’t know—right? I want to know God’s will in my business, my personal life, my finances, my…well you name it! But we don’t have to be at a loss for know knowing all the details. We’re given gems throughout this beautiful instruction manual from God. Read what Paul wrote:

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may PROVE what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” (Romans‬ ‭12:1-2‬)

Romans‬ ‭12:1-2‬

If you are doing the will of God that is WRITTEN, you will know the will of God that is UNWRITTEN!

If you are NOT reading your Bible, praying, going to church, loving others as you are loved by God then—how can you be close enough to God to hear the very unique story He has written for you??? Dr. Patrick Briney wrote:

Here is the secret to knowing God’s unwritten will: be seeking and doing God’s written will. If you are not reading your Bible and doing the obvious, then it should not surprise you that God is not revealing any more of His will to you. The point is this: if you are unwilling to do the most obvious, then do not plan on knowing the obscure. Either God will not reveal it to you, or you will be too immature to recognize it anyway. If you are not doing God’s written will, you are not capable of recognizing God’s unwritten will. If you are doing your own thing, and you are refusing to seek and obey God’s written will, how then can you expect to be mature enough to recognize God’s will expressed as a quiet voice in your mind?

By studying the written Word of God, you are learning how God thinks. It is by this means that your senses are exercised to discern the quiet voice of God. Knowing God’s written will is the key to knowing God’s unwritten will. (Pray:Hope and Pray, by Dr Patrick Briney)

I can tell you from personal experience that the more I am IN God’s WRITTEN will and FOLLOW it—the more I hear His voice give me His UNWRITTEN unique direction each day.

I call it walking “the path of peace.

When we give God our undivided love by heart-obedience to His WRITTEN will—then each day—we hear Him softly whisper the UNWRITTEN story He has specially planned for us
