God’s Recipe For Good Health

Share

girl and man in good health

If you had cancer, would you KNOWINGLY inject your body with more cancer cells? Of course not! You would desperately eradicate every infected cell in your body even if it meant surgery or chemo. It would be insane to purposely inject this lethal disease back into your body—right?

While we often live with a heightened concern for our PHYSICAL health, our SPIRITUAL health is far more important because our soul lasts forever. It should be our primary focus. And thanks be to God, because He gives us the ultimate prescription for a healthy life!

Our journey to spiritual good health begins the day we are born again!

After we are born into God’s family and our spirit is made alive, we are able to communicate with His Spirit. We become spiritually plugged in to God. Without becoming spiritually alive, it is impossible for us to develop strong mental and emotional health because our only resources are from the physical realm. Our soul was designed for a relationship with God; so without the ability to communicate with God, we will never be satisfied. So what do we do to satisfy our needy soul?

We stuff our soul full of unhealthy physical and emotional addictions.

These addictions are not necessarily the obviously “bad” addictions like porn, drugs or alcohol. An unhealthy addiction is anything that is more important than God. An unhealthy addiction is anything [without God] that dominates our time and thoughts. Worry, fear, anxiety, suspicion, revenge, unforgiveness, and negative emotions can dominate our mind. Even a “ministry” can be an unhealthy addiction if it is done for the wrong motivation; that is, for any reason except God’s glory.

We WILL NOT be healthy if our life is dominated by the wrong addictions. We are simply injecting cancer cells into our soul. God’s presence is the only healthy addiction. He is the ultimate source for good health. His presence is LIFE. Jesus said

“I am the way, the truth, and the LIFE. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” ‭‭

John‬ ‭14‬:‭6‬ ‬‬

Through Jesus, we are empowered to LIVE life to the fullest. Each day, we must be determined to invest the time and energy into our relationship with Him. He must be given first place in our heart. Even our most important relationships must be SECONDARY to Him. After all, what can we give those we love if we aren’t FULL of the fruits of God’s Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, etc.?

We must acknowledge and confess to God anything that is more important than Him—our loved ones, our work, or whatever our great passion is. We were rescued from the cancer of sin so let’s not inject ourselves with more of it!!! Sinful thoughts are like a disease that eats us from the inside. We must confess with a desire to turn away from old thoughts AND we must replace them with the thoughts of God:

“Whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.” ‭‭

Philippians‬ ‭4‬:‭8‬ ‭‬‬

Jesus paid the ultimate price so we could live a healthy life. His sacrifice should not be wasted in unhealthy living!

“[He] Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were HEALED.”

‭‭I Peter‬ ‭2‬:‭24‬ ‭‬‬
