God’s Great Opportunity For You Today

hand planting seeds - what you do today matters

Today is not like every other day. It’s not just another Saturday. In fact, it’s golden. It’s never going to be part of your life again but—it can be revived in your best memories. It can ripple outward and move eternal mountains. When your mind is set on Christ’s purpose (as opposed to our own) we make decisions that positively affects others years from now.

Let me share just one small, but extraordinary story that I shared with my Bible study group on Monday night…

Shortly after my first year of law school, I gave birth to my first child right and we PCS’d (a military move) to Virginia. At that point I was not sure I would finish my law degree. In Virginia, I made friends with Alexis Crow, an attorney who worked for a non-profit organization. One day she said to me (rather fiercely, I thought) “I will not let you quit law school.” I had never told her I was considering dropping out—but she knew and—she stayed on me.

So after I moved to Ft. Knox, against all odds, I enrolled as a visiting student at the University of Louisville and—a year later I got my law degree! As I looked around my living room at my Bible study group, I said: “All but one of you, I met through my law practice. You would not be sitting here tonight—had it not been for Alexis Crow.”

You see, what we do today 100% matters.

God has given us a choice. We can choose to listen to Him or we follow our own way which is called being “carnally minded.” In a frightening statement, the Bible says this means we are ENEMIES of God.

“For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭8:5-8‬

When I am Spiritually minded—meaning my life is surrendered to God and I’m not fighting against Him—I am amazed at the opportunities He presents. He sees far into the future—indeed, He is already there. So when I’m thinking like He does, my time is His.

There have been times where God has tapped me on the head and nearly audibly said, “Pay attention.”

Sometimes I don’t grasp the significance of the opportunities right away, but it doesn’t matter because the joy of being in His will is all I need. God knows what people need—and when our life is guided by the heart of Christ, we get in on the blessing.

Living with the mind of Christ we never miss an opportunity to make an eternal difference!

Basic Bible Concepts: Part 9 Spiritual Growth

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you, when they revile and persecute you and say, all kinds of evil against you falsely, for my sake, rejoice and be exceeding. Glad for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” ~Matthew 5:10-12
