God has an extraordinary gift for us—His gift of wisdom! Keep in mind that this is not the wisdom of your favorite TikTok influencer or brilliant law professor. This is the wisdom that created the entire universe—from the smallest molecule to the largest galaxy. The human mind can’t comprehend the vastness of God’s wisdom but yet—He has gifted it to His children. (Read Proverbs…it’s amazing!) This gift of wisdom is not only to help us navigate this world of confusion and fear—but more importantly it is to—glorify God as we spread the good news of His gift of salvation. God is neither lost or afraid. He is gloriously majestic in power and wisdom. He is the I AM. In fact…
God doesn’t have to PREDICT the future, He LIVES there.
“Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, Who WAS and IS and IS TO COME!”
Revelation 4:8 NKJV
We can trust God’s wisdom! We can have it!!! As we celebrate Christmas, let’s be reminded that God offers us the extraordinary GIFT of His wisdom. But GOD’s wisdom is NOT for the happenstance seeker of God. Rather, it is given to those who diligently SEEK Him:
“My son, if you receive my words, and treasure my commands within you, so that you incline your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding; yes, if you cry out for discernment, and lift up your voice for understanding, if you SEEK her as SILVER, and SEARCH for her as for hidden TREASURES…
…THEN…you will understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.”
Proverbs 2:1-5 NKJV
God’s wisdom is revealed when we experience the awe-inspiring wonder of His presence. To “fear” God is, in part, to grasp how completely helpless we are without Him. This mindset of humility places us on the path to discovering God’s wisdom. (Proverbs 9:10) Remember…
God’s wisdom comes from God.
“For the LORD gives wisdom; from HIS mouth comes knowledge and understanding; HE stores up sound wisdom for the UPRIGHT; He is a shield to those who walk UPRIGHTLY; He guards the paths of justice, and preserves the way of His SAINTS.
Then [to those who seek God and His righteousness] you will understand righteousness and justice, equity and every good path.
When wisdom enters your heart, and knowledge is pleasant to your soul, discretion will preserve you; understanding will keep you, to deliver you from the way of evil, from the man who speaks perverse things…”
Proverbs 2:6-12 NKJV
God’s gift of wisdom is for ANYONE who desires it enough to passionately seek HIM! But, keep in mind that it is not a purely intellectual pursuit. Wisdom isn’t just knowledge of God’s ways; rather, it is applying that knowledge to the way we think, speak, and live. Obedience to God is the PROOF of our love for Him. (John 14:15) And the reward of loving God—is HIS profound wisdom. When you experience it—it truly is—mind blowing! 🙃 As you begin to depend upon the wisdom of God to guide you, you realize more and more just how much you need it. Believe me, when people ask, “How do you do all this—writing, teaching, music, practicing law, and mothering, and grananigans (my word for being a silly granny),” I always say without hesitation: “I don’t; God does!!!” Living in God’s wisdom takes our life far outside the realm of what is possible on our own.
The more we practice living in God’s wisdom the more we KNOW we need Him.
My friend, to “treasure up” God’s Word and “incline [our] heart to understanding” means we make HIS ways—OUR ways. As the knowledge of His ways work deep into our heart and transform the way we live—we experience “pleasantness [in our] soul.” There is nothing like it!
God’s gift of wisdom is far greater than gold or silver!
