Giving Isn’t Really About Money—Is It?

Giving

When we are born again, we each possess the extraordinary opportunity to experience the blessings of giving like God gives. But this isn’t really about money—it’s about our heart. Which do we treasure the most: A close relationship with God or—something LESS? Biblical giving is about being all-in with God. He doesn’t need our money to accomplish His glorious purpose. But we need Him if we want the BLESSING of being part of it! We cannot maximize our blessings unless our heart belongs to God—meaning, He is the center of our entire life, that is, our—work, play, family, friends, time, money, possessions…etc.

EVERY resource we possess is a gift from God!

Most of us have the basics like decent health, sight, hearing, intellect, plenty of food, clean water, talent, a source of income, a vehicle, a home, friends, family, time, freedom, etc., and—that’s just the short list!

But God has given us MUCH MORE if we have HIS gift of salvation!

We have the FRUIT of HIS Spirit; that is—HIS…

“love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.”

‭‭Galatians‬ ‭5‬:‭22‬-‭23‬

We possess the same POWER that raised Jesus from the grave!

“and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places…” ‭‭‬ ‭

Ephesians‬ ‭1‬:‭19‬-‭20

We are promised the WISDOM of God!

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” ‭‭‭

James‬ ‭1‬:‭5‬

What will we do with ALL these great, great resources???

The Bible gives us a clue about our responsibility as stewards:

“For unto whomsoever much is GIVEN, of him shall be much REQUIRED…”

Luke‬ ‭12:48‬

But God doesn’t want us to live in FEAR of being a bad steward; He wants us to live in the JOY and FREEDOM of being a GOOD steward.

Ask yourself: “Today, if I stand before God would I be able to say I’ve taken advantage of EVERY opportunity He has given me to make eternal investments with what He has given me?”

I like to ask myself this question because it helps me reassess my plans for the day. God’s immense blessings place us in an extraordinary position to be BOTH a temporal blessing AND an eternal blessing. God didn’t give us these things so we could hoard them and keep them to ourselves. As stewards of God’s resources, He graces us with the opportunity to experience His blessing of giving. Again, this isn’t about money because money is NEVER the ESSENCE of possessing God’s abundance!

God doesn’t need “our” money to bless others—if we want to get in on HIS great opportunities—we must simply give HIM our heart!

When our heart belongs to God we enter into the extraordinarily powerful experience of giving.

We realize how much we are blessed; and thus, we recognize we are in an amazing position to BE a blessing. This perspective changes the degree to which we share our time, intellect, energy, resources, heart, family, talents, etc. When we learn to share without stinginess or expectation of anything in return, then–we begin to experience the miracles of God’s provision—in ALL things. The Bible promises:

“Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his HEART, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a CHEERFUL giver. And God is able to make all GRACE ABOUND to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may ABOUND in every GOOD WORK.”

2 Corinthians 9:6-8

My friend, we are incapable of out-giving God!!! Each day He gives us on this earth means we have more eternal opportunities to experience His endless circle of giving!

Basic Bible Concepts: Part 9 Spiritual Growth

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you, when they revile and persecute you and say, all kinds of evil against you falsely, for my sake, rejoice and be exceeding. Glad for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” ~Matthew 5:10-12
