KEY TAKEAWAYS

Have you ever prayed a salvation prayer just to be safe? That’s exactly what Trenton did. He grew up in church, never doubted God was real, and prayed to be saved more than once, mostly because he was scared of hell. Then at ten years old, as he headed out the door for after-school Bible club, a question hit him: how could he tell his friends about Jesus if he didn’t really know Him himself? In this episode, Kimberly Faith sits down with 15-year-old Trenton for a down-to-earth conversation about what finally happened when he gave God the one thing he liked to keep for himself: Control.

If you’ve ever struggled to fully let go, you’ll find yourself in his story. Trenton opens up about the difference between knowing about Jesus and truly surrendering to Him and why our flesh keeps fighting for control even when our salvation is secure, and how even good things (like basketball) can  crowd out God’s best. Leaning on Psalm 27:1, Romans 7, and Proverbs 21:23, he and Kimberly talk about guarding our words, turning setbacks into opportunities, and living for what really lasts. You’ll walk away encouraged, challenged, and reminded that God’s truth is powerful when we truly surrender to him no matter how young or old we are.

Key Takeaways

  • Knowing about Jesus is not the same as surrendering to Him. Trenton’s early prayers came from fear of hell, not a desire for relationship, and real salvation came when he finally told the Lord, “I can’t do this anymore.”
  • True surrender brings visible change. For Trenton, that looked like anger melting away, instant peace, and confidence about eternity based on the finished work of Christ.
  • We can’t lose our salvation, but our flesh still tries to take back control. Romans 7 reminds us the struggle is real for every believer.
  • A practical strategy for temptation: give it to the Lord, trust that He’s taken it, and then intentionally take your mind off it instead of fixating.
  • God’s good gifts (basketball, landscaping, hobbies we love) can crowd out His best when we fixate on them and forget eternal priorities.
  • Every obstacle is an opportunity. A painful loss taught Trenton to share the gospel with an opposing player, because trophies don’t go to heaven, but souls do.
  • Guard your words. Before speaking, ask whether it’s kind, honest, and necessary, and remember Proverbs 21:23: keeping your tongue keeps your soul from trouble.
  • The fear of the Lord isn’t being afraid of God. It’s giving Him first place, deep respect, and trusting the wisdom of the One who wrote every page of our lives.
  • Godly influence matters. Trenton’s grandparents model faith through suffering and daily Scripture, showing how wisdom gets passed from one generation to the next.
  • The greatest accomplishment in life is to win souls, put the Lord first, and run the race well (Proverbs 11:30; 2 Timothy 4:7).

Kimberly Faith: Welcome to the truth and love podcast with your host Kimberly Faith. We seek to present God’s timeless truth through the lens of his remarkable love.

Well, I’m excited to be here today with Trenton Osborne. Trenton, welcome to the show.

Trenton Kovach: Thank you. Thank you for having me.

Kimberly Faith: Absolutely. And, I have to tell you that never in my wildest dreams of what I would be doing on the show did it ever occur to me to have a 15 year old young man on the show that is shining his light for Jesus like you are? And it’s not because you know, just because God is so good and he’s so creative. And this this kind of has started out to be a place where people give their testimonies and then some teaching. But I I just about thirty days ago, I saw you at church, I was like, that young man has the love of the Lord and the spirit of God just pouring out of him.

And and then I found I was looking up to you because you sprouted up about, I don’t know, a foot in So, last you know, how wonderful it is to be serving the Lord with a with a young man like you, and thank you so much for agreeing to come on today.

Trenton Kovach: Ma’am, my pleasure.

Kimberly Faith: Yeah. Well, it’s my pleasure. And, so tell us a little bit about yourself. And then I wanna want everybody to know who you are and, what you like to do. And then let’s talk about, dive right into how you came to know Jesus as your lord and savior.

Trenton Kovach: Alright. So like you said, my name is Trintin Osman. I just am starting the ninth grade. Some things that I like to do are just really sports. Mainly what my day consists of is school and then go to the gym and workout.

Mostly basketball, also track this year.

Kimberly Faith: Okay.

Trenton Kovach: I’ve always grown up in the church. And so knowing that the Lord was real was never I never struggled with that per se. But one thing that I did was one thing I did struggle with was truly giving my life over to the Lord, like letting him have it all. Because my personality is I like to just do it myself and get it going, and then I’ll give it over. You know?

Kimberly Faith: Dude, you’re not alone. It doesn’t really matter how old you get, that is the struggle.

Trenton Kovach: So that’s the exact same thing with how it was with my walk through through getting to know the Lord and then soon giving my life over to him. And and I’ve made many, like, false professions, but that’s that’s the that’s how it was.

Kimberly Faith: Yeah. Tell me about that. Like, so when you say false professions, where you’re talking about where you wanted to get saved and you prayed. And what did that look like?

Trenton Kovach: So the reason why I was praying is because in church, I had heard about hell. Mhmm. And I didn’t wanna go to that. You know, as a little kid, I I have wanted nothing to do with that. Right.

Because I had heard, like, how terrible it is. And so I wanted to go to heaven and be with the Lord because I’ve learned about him and how amazing he is. Mhmm. And so I would just pray those prayers so that I wouldn’t go and experience what some people like, you weren’t looking for the relationship.

Kimberly Faith: You were just scared of hell.

Trenton Kovach: Yes. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I was I was just wanting that out of the picture.

Kimberly Faith: It’s kinda like getting married to somebody because you hate living at home and you don’t wanna end up, like, in a ditch, you know, poor.

Trenton Kovach: Yes.

Kimberly Faith: And so you marry somebody not because you love them, but because you want something from them. Yep. I mean, really. Yeah. You know?

And so how old were you when you finally surrendered to the Lord?

Trenton Kovach: I was I was about 10 years old. It was in the it was on February 1.

Kimberly Faith: Okay. What

Trenton Kovach: happened? Twenty twenty one. I was I just had gotten home from school, and it was a Monday. Normally, I had practice on Mondays, but we had just finished with our season. And so I was going to get to go to bible club for the first time.

Kimberly Faith: Now when you when you when you say bible club, you’re talking about the after school bible club that is hosted by another church in the area and our church participates.

Trenton Kovach: Baptist. Yeah.

Kimberly Faith: And so were you helping teach that as a fifth grader?

Trenton Kovach: So no. My my mom helped out with

Kimberly Faith: it. Okay.

Trenton Kovach: And she would help out with teaching. I was actually in, like, in bible

Kimberly Faith: class. In the class in the classes. Okay. So you were getting ready to go to that.

Trenton Kovach: Yes. I was getting ready to go to that, and I ran up the stairs, and I was so excited. And I was changing from my school clothes. And then I got ready to go, and I started to go down my stairs and head out the door. And then a thought just came onto me, and it was, how can you share the gospel with these kids, you know, like with my classmates that I was in the class with if you don’t personally know what you’re talking about.

Oh. So in other words, how can

Kimberly Faith: you share something that, like, it’d be, like, hypocritical?

Trenton Kovach: Exactly. Yeah. I would just

Kimberly Faith: You need to get saved, but I’m not saved.

Trenton Kovach: Yes. Exactly. It would just be it wouldn’t be beneficial at all to anyone.

Kimberly Faith: Right. It’s not real.

Trenton Kovach: It’s it’s another false profession. And You so I realized that, and I went back into my room. And I I finally I said, Lord, I can’t do this anymore. You know? I I want to share something that I truly believe.

I know, like, I know that you died on the cross. I’ve never I’ve never struggled with knowing that. And I know that you’re real. I’ve seen I I know the evidence, and I see your creation and your handiwork, but I need you to just take it over. And and I like to point out this because sometimes I do try to take it back, but I told him, never let me take it back.

You know? I know a lot of the times, maybe maybe that one is I still struggle with for sure. But I told him, please never let me take it back because I’ve been I’ve I’ve been without him, and I’ve been lost. And I know how that is. I I was actually very bad with anger Mhmm.

Before I was saved. Mhmm. Like, terribly bad. Anytime someone would do a little thing to me, I would just blow up,

Kimberly Faith: and it would come into fists. You know? Yeah. Wow.

Trenton Kovach: And then completely after that, I started to pull out my smile a lot more.

Kimberly Faith: Yeah. You have a great smile.

Trenton Kovach: Thank you. And and now that’s something that I still struggle with a little bit, especially in sports.

Kimberly Faith: Right.

Trenton Kovach: Right. That’s whenever it comes out. Yeah. And

Kimberly Faith: but Well, we always have the flesh. Right?

Trenton Kovach: Yes.

Kimberly Faith: The flesh is not regenerated.

Trenton Kovach: Yes.

Kimberly Faith: So I wanna I wanna go back to your ex what your explanation of how you came to know Jesus. This, by the way, is beautiful, and it’s just so real. Mhmm. Isn’t it interesting how you had this struggle to really surrender everything to Christ? And then when you did, you were so ready.

It was like, please just keep this. Don’t even let me take it back. I love that you said that because it’s you know yourself well enough to know that that’s gonna happen. Yeah. That’s gonna be your tendency.

And of course, we know from the bible that when we have everlasting life and we are in Christ, we have the genetics of Christ, and we can’t take it back, you know, any more than you cannot have your mother’s genes. Right? You’re gonna have that crazy crystal DNA your whole life. Well, about that. What about that?

Well Your mom and I are good friends. So it’s all it’s all good. It’s all in the family here.

Trenton Kovach: Yeah. No. It’s it’s definitely a very good thing.

Kimberly Faith: Yeah. It is. She’s

Trenton Kovach: very on fire for the Lord and has brought me into very many ministries.

Kimberly Faith: Yeah. And and so you when you surrendered your life Mhmm. What would you say would be how would you characterize the biggest change in, like, your life? Like, did you go from being fearful of death to being not afraid to die? Or how would you describe that?

Trenton Kovach: I would say there’s probably three main things. One of them was my like, I struggled with anger and that on all of a sudden just, like, disappeared. You know? And I know that that was not because of anything that I had done. If It’s a great observation.

If I hadn’t given my life over, I would still have been struggling with anger and would probably be in a lot of trouble by now.

Kimberly Faith: Yeah.

Trenton Kovach: The second thing is I just felt instant peace, you know. And it was just so calming, and and I got to go out the door knowing what I’m pre like, knowing what I’m sharing with my classmates. I truly now believe, And I can tell and I can tell them with no doubt in my mind. And like

Kimberly Faith: That’s you freeing. Yes. Yeah.

Trenton Kovach: And like you brought up, I also I also was no longer worried about am I going to go to hell? Am I going to go to heaven? I I know for sure that I was going to go to heaven.

Kimberly Faith: Yeah. Based on the work of Christ.

Trenton Kovach: Yeah.

Kimberly Faith: Yeah. And his word is good. You know, I I really love that because you’re what you’re describing is is so it’s such crystal clear proof Mhmm. That what Jesus does is gives us new life. Yeah.

He gives us new life. And and, you know, when our of course, our flesh still wants what it wants. It’s still

Trenton Kovach: Oh, yeah.

Kimberly Faith: You know, it’s like the roaring lion. It’s, you know, our flesh and Satan and the world’s culture all around us is just constantly pulling us away from being in Christ. But, know and I I it’s just such a privilege to know you. It’s such a privilege to know a 15 year old young man who is on fire for the Lord and wants to, you know, shine the light.

Trenton Kovach: Yeah.

Kimberly Faith: You know? It’s just it’s just great. And what do you so now you’ve been you’ve been saved for five years now.

Trenton Kovach: Yes, ma’am.

Kimberly Faith: And what do you think has been the hardest part of your Christian growth?

Trenton Kovach: I would say because I’ve been in, like, a lot of these ministries and stuff. And probably one of the ones which I prayed for it for me to not take it back, but I definitely had been taking it back from him. Taking control back. Taking control of.

Kimberly Faith: Yeah. Yeah. You can’t take your salvation. That would disappear.

Trenton Kovach: Sorrow. That’s There’s no once you pray and ask him to take it over, he comes in and changes your life around. And there’s no doubt about that he still maintains control of that.

Kimberly Faith: Right. He he he’s he has sealed us

Trenton Kovach: Yes.

Kimberly Faith: Forever. And we’re written in the lamb’s book of life. And there’s no scratching that out. Yes. Yeah.

So what what would you do? How would so when you say taking it back, you’re describing really your the will in the mind of your flesh

Trenton Kovach: Mhmm.

Kimberly Faith: Taking back control of your life.

Trenton Kovach: Yeah.

Kimberly Faith: And what does that look like for you? Where where do you and I don’t I’m not trying to get into your most deep, dark secrets, but just what does that look like, and how do you handle that and take your life back in Christ? Do you see what I’m saying?

Trenton Kovach: Yes, ma’am. So what I’ve been what I’ve been figuring out recently as through, like, certain, like, temptations and stuff, but I’ve noticed that I have to ask him to take it and know that he will do it and take it, and then I have to just take my mind off that. Oh, that’s I I to read scriptures that just almost like a checklist in my mind that check off that, okay. He will he will take this one for me and this one.

Kimberly Faith: What are some of your favorite scriptures that you use?

Trenton Kovach: My favorite scripture, my favorite verse is Psalms twenty seven one. Let me I’ll pull it up

Kimberly Faith: Okay.

Trenton Kovach: In the word. But it’s been my favorite. I I don’t may have I think it was ever since I’ve been saved. But the Lord is my light and my salvation. Whom shall I fear?

The Lord is your strength in my life. Of whom shall I be afraid?

Kimberly Faith: And

Trenton Kovach: a lot of the times when we’re lost and stuff, we don’t know what’s going to we’re fearful about the future and even about things we’ve done in the past. Right. But when I got saved, I no longer had to fear about those things. Yeah. Because the Lord has covered them all with his blood.

Kimberly Faith: So good. That’s so good.

Trenton Kovach: It’s just have the red crimson blood of the lamb has just washed it white as snow.

Kimberly Faith: Yeah. Yeah. You know, that’s and and what what you’re describing is very practical. Mhmm. Because when when you have are tempted to say or do something that or you even do it or say it

Trenton Kovach: Yeah.

Kimberly Faith: And you know it’s wrong, And that struggle is what Paul described in Romans chapter seven. Right? When I would do good, evil is present with me. I wanna do this, but instead I do this. Right?

Trenton Kovach: Yes.

Kimberly Faith: And, oh, I wish, you know, wretched man that I am. You know how he describes himself. Yes. And and so you have come up with this, you know, well, I’m going to give this to the lord, and then I’m going to stop thinking about it.

Trenton Kovach: And that’s one thing with, like, how my mind works is I I fixate on a lot of things.

Kimberly Faith: Mhmm.

Trenton Kovach: And so that’s probably one of the main struggles that I’ve just had throughout my life is fixating on what I’m doing what I’m doing good Yeah. And what I’m doing bad.

Kimberly Faith: Oh, gotcha.

Trenton Kovach: And so that’s why that’s why this this works better for me Mhmm. Is I just have to take my mind off of it. And I and it’s a constant day thing. I constantly have to say, nope. I’m not gonna I’m not even gonna think about that because I’ve given that over to the Lord.

It’s it’s out of my hands now. Yeah. You know?

Kimberly Faith: Do you find yourself like because something the Lord’s been teaching me lately is that he we’d often take God’s good things, and we fixate on those to the and forfeit his best. Like like, for example, for me, like, I love to landscape. You like to play basketball. Right? And so I get all fixated on my landscaping.

I wake up thinking about it and and wonder, I should have planted that pine tree over there. And and suddenly, I’m not even thinking about praying for lost souls. I’m not thinking about the way I’m supposed to be glorifying god because I’m fixated on a good thing that god gave me Yes. And forfeiting the best. Do you find that with, like, something like basketball?

Trenton Kovach: Yes. I that I really noticed that when we sadly came up short in the championship game. Exactly. My mind just went back, and it was like, okay. I should’ve shot this shot.

Kimberly Faith: Right.

Trenton Kovach: And and I was focusing on that every single morning. Uh-huh. And my my walk with God was really struggling. Yeah. You know?

And I noticed throughout the day, had been I just had really struggled with stuff. You know? Yeah. And just my walk was not as strong.

Kimberly Faith: You think that you think that well, you know, if our purpose the Bible says our purpose is to glorify God. Right? Whatsoever you do, whether you eat, drink, whatever you do, glorify God. And that’s our primary purpose, and our our practical purpose is to win souls and disciple. Right?

So taking your example from basketball, how do you think, like, how do you think that the lord wants us to take something like that that is devastating? You work all season, and you wanna win, and and then you start second guessing every play because if what if woulda, coulda, shoulda. Right?

Trenton Kovach: Yes.

Kimberly Faith: And then suddenly, you do you’re derailed in the ditch, and there’s a lost soul right there. And you’ve totally ignored that person because you’re over here thinking about something that won’t matter in eternity.

Trenton Kovach: Yeah.

Kimberly Faith: What do you think is the like, what’s the pivot for you to get back out of the ditch and back on track to glorify god?

Trenton Kovach: So, actually, it’s a kinda funny story, but in the semifinals this or, like, in the eighth grade season, the same exact, like, principle happened. I couldn’t make any shots and stuff, But there’s a person on the other team who was just they were kinda sick and, like, sick and stuff, like, had a cold and stuff, but they were playing basketball. And he was, like, kinda cussing and stuff at me and stuff. But I was able to share the gospel with him. Wow.

And and so throughout the game and stuff, even though I was super mad and stuff because I was like, man, it’s gonna be like the championship game last year. Uh-huh. You know? And I’m not I’m not gonna we’re you not gonna get to win. There’s no way.

But the Lord had to because I lost the first time, I knew that I learned from my loss. Yeah. And I learned that the loss actually motivated me to work harder and and honestly put me back on track in my spiritual life.

Kimberly Faith: Interesting. Because Interesting.

Trenton Kovach: I learned, like, the characteristics from what you learn a lot more when you lose than when you do whenever you’re always on top and winning.

Kimberly Faith: Yeah. That’s a 100% true. And so your loss and that derailment that you experienced was enough of an experience for you to say, if this happens again, I’m still gonna look for the ministry opportunity. Yeah. Yeah.

And good to share the gospel with this kid?

Trenton Kovach: Yes, ma’am. So throughout the game and stuff, you know, he was like, look. I’m just here. I’m just here to I just wanna win the trophy. And just, you know, and I just wanna bring that home.

And I was like, I understand that. You know, I wanted that all last year, and I want that this year too. But in the end, that trophy doesn’t mean anything, you know? If I bring that up to heaven, which I’m not able to Right. And and I show God, I’m like, look, God, this is what I did.

That doesn’t amount up to anything. Know? God says in the word that our works are like filthy rags.

Kimberly Faith: That’s right. And the only thing we’re taking with us is souls. Right?

Trenton Kovach: Exactly. Yeah. And so I I shared that with him. I was like, no matter if you win this or not, I just want you to think about, is this truly going to be beneficial when you die? You know?

Yeah. Like, will this truly satisfy your soul with winning this championship?

Kimberly Faith: What did he say?

Trenton Kovach: He was he was honestly he didn’t say anything.

Kimberly Faith: He was kinda floored.

Trenton Kovach: And he just he honestly just wanted to get away. He was pushing me off. And so I kept coming back, you know? But then we went to the championship game and watched them. And I got to go up and I got to dab them up, and they did win.

And I went up to him and I asked him and I said, you know, and I’m still praying for this guy because I I don’t know. That’s right. You know, I don’t know if he did accept the Lord or if he didn’t.

Kimberly Faith: Right.

Trenton Kovach: But I told him, I said, I’m glad that you won. You know, I really actually won, DTI. I actually prayed that you would.

Kimberly Faith: Mhmm.

Trenton Kovach: But just remember, is this truly what you want?

Kimberly Faith: He’s not gonna forget that. He’s not gonna forget that. That’s you know, and and I love that you took a loss that derailed you. And because one of the things that the Lord keeps teaching me is every failure, every circumstance that is that is hard is it can be looked at as an opportunity. Every obstacle is an opportunity is what I always like to say.

And it looks like to me what the Lord did through your life is that exactly. Yes. Now you have this opportunity to pray for this young man.

Trenton Kovach: Mhmm.

Kimberly Faith: And because that’s the most powerful asset we have anyway. It’s the most powerful offensive weapon we have. The gospel is the power of God and the salvation, and prayer is the wings. Right?

Trenton Kovach: Yes.

Kimberly Faith: Yeah. So that’s really a great story. What you I I know before we got on the started recording, you mentioned that one of the things that you the Lord’s been teaching you is letting him choose my words. Yes. Okay.

So I’d love for you to share share about that. First of all, why do you have trouble with that to begin with? Well,

Trenton Kovach: it’s kind of a it’s a everyday sort of thing with my family. Because like we were discussing before this started, my family says a lot of words in a short amount of time.

Kimberly Faith: Like, we

Trenton Kovach: are just running our mouths. And and it’s and so with that, if I want to say something, I have to speak instantly.

Kimberly Faith: And you’re the youngest.

Trenton Kovach: There’s no hesitation there.

Kimberly Faith: Right. You’re the youngest?

Trenton Kovach: Yes. I am. The youngest out of I have two older brothers and an older sister.

Kimberly Faith: And And then your mom isn’t exactly quiet. No. And your dad your dad seems a little calmer, but I bet he gets fired up too.

Trenton Kovach: My dad my dad is he is a very very I think he’s a lot more slow to speak, except whenever my brothers rile him up, which they are very good at, especially Justice. Justice is the best at that.

Kimberly Faith: That is so funny.

Trenton Kovach: And so I’ve definitely brought that into my everyday life with school and stuff. And like I was telling you, I’ve gotten myself into a lot of trouble because I will just run my mouth and I don’t think. Mhmm. And and afterwards, I’m like, I should not have said that. Truth, you know that wasn’t us.

You know that I shouldn’t have said that. That was obviously not the thing I should have said at that moment. And and that’s what I’m working on because the Lord has really gotten a hold of my life. And I’ve seen it a lot in the world.

Kimberly Faith: Yeah.

Trenton Kovach: It’s the exact same thing. They they like a lot of people like too, and I’m definitely one of them. We I like to run my mouth a whole lot, and I have to be very careful.

Kimberly Faith: Yeah. It’s and, you know, there’s so many verses in the Bible that talk about a soft answer turns away wrath. You know, the the that the the words of the righteous are are you know, they feed the soul. They they are, you know, marrow to the bones.

Trenton Kovach: And Yes.

Kimberly Faith: You know? I mean, all these positive things. And so when you when you think about that, like, when when you know you’ve stepped in it, so to speak, what how do you how do you take that to the Lord? How do you give that to the Lord?

Trenton Kovach: So what I’ve been starting to do is if someone asks me a question and I don’t don’t know the answer or I want to say something, I just have to be like, I’ll get back to you.

Kimberly Faith: You And

Trenton Kovach: then I go home. I look at the certain verses like what you were saying on the narrow to thy bones. And I make sure that the words I’m saying are to the point and that they’re what the Lord wants me to share.

Kimberly Faith: That’s a good criteria. You know, I heard a pastor say one time, and I’m I’m sure that wasn’t original with him, but it’s it’s actually an office policy that I implemented in my office just recently. But don’t say anything unless it’s kind, it’s honest, and it’s and it’s necessary.

Trenton Kovach: Yeah.

Kimberly Faith: That’s a great criteria.

Trenton Kovach: One thing that my mom always says to me whenever I was young is if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all off of Bambi. Probably one of the one good liners in in that show.

Kimberly Faith: But you can’t say anything nice, don’t say

Trenton Kovach: anything Exactly. At And so, of course, you know, we were like, oh, it’s so annoying. Yeah. But it’s so true. So true.

Yeah. Knowing especially now in these ages when gossip is such a big thing Yeah. You really have to.

Kimberly Faith: We we did a an earlier show on what they call the anger algorithm that’s been built into a lot of the social media platforms. It’s an intentional moneymaker where things that are angry and unkind get a higher boosting into in platform, basically, than things that are lovely and beautiful and pure and all the things we need to hear. Right? And so it’s no wonder that we have such an angry I mean, but we can change that. We can change the culture

Trenton Kovach: Oh, yeah.

Kimberly Faith: By just not engaging in that. And, that’s very exciting. Trenton, what as a born again believer well, let’s even as somebody before you got saved, what do you think was the the primary characteristic of people who influenced you most to come to know Jesus and or who have influenced you most to grow in your walk with God?

Trenton Kovach: I’d say there are many, many very strong believers in our church. A lot of them have impacted me. My dad has definitely helped me a lot through a bunch of trials and stuff that I’ve been facing with my anger, my mom has also helped me a whole lot. I’d say one of the biggest ones, though, there’s two, I’d say my grandpa. Your grandpa George?

Yes.

Kimberly Faith: He is the sweetest man ever.

Trenton Kovach: I remember I would go over to his house and we’d have, and we still do, we have hour long discussions. And it’s so amazing because and I have just the highest respect for him because, as you know, he had a back injury, and he’s used that to glorify the Lord.

Kimberly Faith: He sure has.

Trenton Kovach: And

Kimberly Faith: And how how does that how does that affect you?

Trenton Kovach: So I’ve not that not that the trials we face the trials we face, each each one of them are, you know, are meant to help us grow in our Christian life. Mhmm. The Lord will never do something that will just make us, you know, just give up on him because that’s not what he wants. He wants us to love and grow in him.

Kimberly Faith: I think He never gives us more than he can handle. Right? Exactly. Exactly.

Trenton Kovach: Sorry. Where are No.

Kimberly Faith: Go ahead.

Trenton Kovach: And so with my grandpa’s thing, I’ve used it as like a almost like a role model thing. Like, you know, this is this is what our temptations, like, and our trials should be. If if this happens to you, we just need to give it over to the Lord, And he will use it, and it will make us go farther than we ever thought we could go.

Kimberly Faith: Yeah. I think that’s a really good perspective. And especially when we evaluate you’re really young, and so you’re evaluating your life. What am I gonna be when I grow up? Right?

So I’m not gonna sort ask myself that even though I should know, but I don’t really know. But when we evaluate our life, we know that our works are gonna be tried at the judgment seat of Christ. Right? And the only thing that’s gonna withstand the judgment seat of Christ are the things we did for God’s glory. And the only thing we’re taking with us are lost souls.

You know, are the people that we influence. And that’s a real game changer in making daily decisions. Right?

Trenton Kovach: Yes.

Kimberly Faith: And so when I mean, when you view your grandfather, who is probably the sweetest man I know, I mean, he is just so kind, And, you know, and you get inspiration from his his physically painful life that he is still used for god’s glory. He still hugs everybody in church. He still

Trenton Kovach: Yep.

Kimberly Faith: You know, I know he prays, and and and I know it’s been a hard road for him.

Trenton Kovach: Yes. But

Kimberly Faith: but he lets the fruit of god’s spirit dominate his life.

Trenton Kovach: Yes.

Kimberly Faith: You know? Yeah. I see I see love. I see joy. I see peace, kindness, compassion in him.

And that’s so powerful. Yes. Sounds like he’s been one of the most powerful influences in your life.

Trenton Kovach: Oh, for sure. For sure. The the other one, I’d say would probably be my my grandmother because I’ve been able to go to her and and I’ve been able to just share, like, you know, the trials and stuff that I’ve been going through. And she’s always been there and been a listening ear and has really just given me verses. In fact, actually, whenever I was preparing for this, she gave me a verse.

Kimberly Faith: What verse did she give you?

Trenton Kovach: It was Proverbs twenty one twenty three about how, like, how to use your words and stuff.

Kimberly Faith: Okay.

Trenton Kovach: We can, if you want

Kimberly Faith: to, get out here real quick.

Trenton Kovach: Because I was I was telling her that I was going to get to do this. Uh-huh. And we like to discuss about, like, you know, just everyday life. You know, I I ask her what she did today. She asked me what I did today.

Kimberly Faith: Oh, that’s so that’s so beautiful.

Trenton Kovach: So get them in over here. It says it says, whosoever keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles. Which

Kimberly Faith: That’s like Mike Drop. Right? Yes.

Trenton Kovach: And so that’s why that’s why I was like and see, this is this isn’t the first time, you know. She does this almost like every single day thing. And and that’s I really respect them because they they always are ready to, you know, give their wisdom and pass it on. Mhmm.

Kimberly Faith: Straight from God’s word.

Trenton Kovach: And yes. And it’s the Lord’s wisdom

Kimberly Faith: that

Trenton Kovach: he has given to them and shown them throughout their years. Yeah. And that’s the that’s the one thing that I that I love with our church and my family is is that’s how it is. And that’s how it is for every born believer. Yeah.

We always are trying to look to reach new souls and to share our wisdom Yeah. With the newborn believers.

Kimberly Faith: What do you think you know, the Bible says that all of Bible says, the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.

Trenton Kovach: Mhmm.

Kimberly Faith: And I and I heard Paul Harden is that Paul? Yeah. Paul Harden Yes. Preach a sermon about the fear of the Lord. And the Lord and the Lord’s been talking to me about that.

What do you think the fear of the Lord means? What does it mean to you?

Trenton Kovach: To me, it means the the respects of the Lord. When you like, because most people and I thought this whenever I was young. I thought the fear of the Lord meant you’re supposed to be afraid of the Lord.

Kimberly Faith: Mhmm.

Trenton Kovach: But that’s not that’s not a it’s not at all, now that I’ve grown up, that’s not what it means. You know? Because if we’re afraid of the Lord, then we wouldn’t be getting saved, you know, and then we wouldn’t be born believers. But I think it means to have, like, a very high respect of the Lord.

Kimberly Faith: Give him first place.

Trenton Kovach: Right? Exactly.

Kimberly Faith: I mean, if you were Exactly. If you were besties with your most admired NBA player Yeah. You’d give him some respect, and he’d he’d tell you exactly what how to how to, you know, improve, and you’d be all over that. But god has the wisdom of the ages, and he gives us the best life. He’s matter of fact, have you ever thought about what the psalms the psalmist says about how God has written every page of your life?

Trenton Kovach: Yeah. The I know the plans I have for thee.

Kimberly Faith: That’s yeah. Jeremiah. Yeah. The psalmist said, you know, God has written every page of our life before we were even born. It’s like, don’t you wanna figure out what that says Yes.

And live it? Yeah. You know? Well, what do you think would be the best accomplishment? And we’re gonna just wrap up with this.

What do you think would be the best accomplishment that you could ever make with your life?

Trenton Kovach: For me, it would be to reach the maximum amount of souls that I can. And to pass my wisdom down whenever I get older to my friends and family and more people in the church, just like I’ve seen the older gentlemen and other believers throughout the world have been doing. And I also just want to put the Lord first in everything that I do and also gain the wisdom that he has and hopefully figure out the plan he has for for me too. That would be which I know.

Kimberly Faith: He does. And and it’s and it’s like, you know, when I think about that verse about the fear of the Lord is beginning with wisdom, and and even, like, the verse we all know in Proverbs, trust in the Lord with all your heart. Right? Jesus said, love me with all your heart, all your mind, all your strength, right, all your soul.

Trenton Kovach: Yeah.

Kimberly Faith: It’s not that difficult. You just put God on the throne in every every closet, every room, you know, whether that’s, you know, the pickleball court or whether that’s the courtroom. Yeah. You know? And then it’s amazing.

It’s like almost like magic how god just you you suddenly find yourself because you’ve immersed yourself in god’s word speaking the wisdom like what you’ve experienced with your grandparents. Yes. Right? Yep. And so what a great what a great lifelong goal to win souls.

The proverb says the man who wins souls is wise. Right? Ain’t that crazy how that both wisdom and winning souls kinda go together?

Trenton Kovach: I also another one of my goals is, of course, to win souls over, but also to fight the good fight. Yeah. And the I think it’s I think it’s in Hebrews when he’s talking about the, like, the racing analogies.

Kimberly Faith: Oh, yeah. Yeah.

Trenton Kovach: The run that ye may receive the prize. So that’s that’s another one of my goals is that I’m always running, and it’s not running to what Satan may Right. Trick my mind into what I need. Right. But it’s running to what the Lord has for me.

Kimberly Faith: Right. You know, that’s you’re you’re an athlete. So it makes a lot of sense that, you know, Paul Paul said in second Timothy four seven, I have fought a good fight. I have finished my course. I have kept the faith.

Right? And, you know, to to come into heaven when we’re when this life is over, covered in dirt and blood and exhausted, what a great what a great finish.

Trenton Kovach: Yeah.

Kimberly Faith: Right? What a great finish. Yeah. And I know you’re gonna do it. I have no doubt.

I have no doubt.

Trenton Kovach: Thank you.

Kimberly Faith: I really appreciate you taking the time.

Trenton Kovach: Thank so much for letting me do this.

Kimberly Faith: Oh, yeah. Well, have you enjoyed it?

Trenton Kovach: Oh, yes. Oh, yes. Definitely.

Kimberly Faith: Great. Well, wait. I just totally it was a delightful time for me, and I appreciate the opportunity to glorify God with you, Trenton. Amen. Hey, friend.
