Dress For REAL Success In The  Armor Of God, Part 2: The Belt Of Truth

Share

Belt Dress for Success

In dressing for REAL success, the apostle Paul first emphasizes the role of the “belt of truth” which is God’s Word:

Therefore take up the WHOLE armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with TRUTH

Ephesians 6:14

Just as a belt secures a soldier’s weapon, the belt of truth serves as a critical element for Christians who are engaged in spiritual warfare. God’s Word is the ONLY truth to guide and equip us for battles against the lies of Satan. Satan will NEVER tell us the truth. Through individual Bible study, becoming a part of a strong church community, and memorizing scripture—we become supremely confident of THE truth—and it sticks with us even in the face of Satan’s worst lies. He is the father of lies. (John 8:44) JESUS is the way, the TRUTH, and life. (John 14:6). When we know HIS Word…

We KNOW who GOD is;

We KNOW who WE are;

We KNOW the ENEMY;

We KNOW our MISSION;
and thus…

We keep our eyes on the prize—not the lies!

“Wearing” the belt of truth means it becomes the foundation for how we think, talk, and act. It holds everything else together. We hide God’s Word in our heart and allow it to light our path. (Psalms 119:11;105) God’s Word becomes the integral part of every waking moment and sets the standard for every decision. By immersing ourselves in His Word, we know how to THINK and ACT according to TRUTH. The light within us grows brighter and illuminates the darkness around us. We are able to readily discern between truth and falsehood. We can see the battlefield. We can tell the difference between the enemy and his slaves so we fight the enemy—not those enslaved by him!

Satan, the father of lies, seeks to deceive us; but God’s Word powerfully frees us from his deception.

But we MUST know God’s Word and follow it!!! Throughout thousands of years of history, God commanded His people to learn His law and carefully observe it—NOT for salvation, but for abundant Christian living. In modern Judaism, the beautiful Shema (Deuteronomy 6:4-9) is memorized or sometimes even inscribed on a small mezuzah and worn on a chain as a necklace:

“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.”

Deuteronomy 6:4-9

If we want to stand firm on the battlefield, we must be determined to strap on God’s belt of truth EACH and EVERY day.

And remember, the Bible is not just a collection of words of wisdom to memorize. It is so much more! It is embodied with the power of Jesus, who not only spoke the world into existence, but is the Savior of all humanity!

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”

John 1:1-5,14

My friend, there is no word spoken by humans that is more powerful than the Word of God!

“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

Hebrews 4:12

God in His infinite wisdom created set points of righteousness for our life to operate at optimal performance. His guidance is not to punish. He is the God of love and He demonstrated that on the cross. His Word is the ONLY truth. Anything that contradicts His standard comes from a malevolent spirit and is high treason. It will cause us to fail because it deviates from God’s loving goals for our life. (John 8:44) To put on the belt of truth is to…

Basic Bible Concepts: Part 9 Spiritual Growth

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you, when they revile and persecute you and say, all kinds of evil against you falsely, for my sake, rejoice and be exceeding. Glad for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” ~Matthew 5:10-12
