Don’t Let Your Age Steal Your Sense Of Wonder

At what age are you “old”? Or when are you supposed to start feeling “old”? As I celebrate another year of life and reflect on my age, I realize that I still don’t feel old. Maybe I should, since I’m now a granny and all, but God is teaching me something remarkable. Having a close relationship with Him, means that in HIS presence we seldom lose our sense of childlike wonder.

My friend, if your age is stealing your ability to dream big—it doesn’t have to be this way.  Do you think your greatest opportunities and dreams have passed you by?  We often “mature” or age-out of our God-given sense of wonder because we live in a world that makes us cold, cynical and too busy doing all the wrong things. But…

God’s presence allows us to maintain that childlike spirit of wonder!

How?

Well because God is BIG and—His plans for us are BIG.

His presence gives us the confidence to live as a conqueror. He gives us the ability to STILL believe that we were created for a magnificent, supernatural purpose. Close to Him, the possibilities for our life have no outer limits. Our dreams are alive and bigger than ever. God’s children who live close to Him, approach life with all the energy, enthusiasm, and belief of a child.

Being psychologically and emotionally damaged by life’s hard experiences tends to erect a wall between imagination and reality. Prior to that, children approach life with a refreshing naïveté. As children, we BELIEVED our daddy was the strongest man alive; we BELIEVED we could be a princess or an astronaut; and–we LIVED in the joy of those great imaginations! Then, the older we got, the more crusty and cynical we were about everything—including God.

But—the bigger we make God in our life, the bigger He makes our dreams.

We cannot allow life’s experiences to corrode our imagination and wonder. After we are born again, we must continually strip away ANYTHING that comes between us and God. Then—we rediscover our childlike spirit of wonder. We KNOW there isn’t anyone as powerful, wise, and loving as our Heavenly Father. He gives US His imagination–and HIS imagination is NEVER defined by the limitations and preconditioned notions of this cynical culture that constantly assaults our sense of awe.

When we are set free in God’s imagination, we are free. We aren’t concerned—if the music we make isn’t popular, if our art doesn’t look like anyone else’s, if our professional life does not conform to the norms, or, if ANY of our God-inspired ideas seem crazy to other people because—our Heavenly Father’s opinion of us—is the only one that really matters. All others pale by comparison. We go back to our childhood when our heart was fresh, pure, warm, energized, indefatigably optimistic, sweet—AND—we live like the impossible was possible. God’s presence is a constant reminder that we WERE created to glorify supernatural God—the only one truly worthy of our adoration and worship. In the care of our Heavenly Father, our life joins the chorus of the earth and declares the indescribable glory of God.

The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork.

Day unto day utters speech, and night unto night reveals knowledge.

There is no speech nor language where their voice is not heard.

Psalms‬ ‭19‬:‭1‬-‭3‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

‭‭ Our life is indescribably strong and beautiful when we live in the limitless imagination of God.
