Our family spent much of my pre-teen years living as hippies and believe me—we did NOT fit in at school. I remember the kids asking me things like why my name was “Little Star,” and snickering behind my back at the way we dressed and the way we looked. We were a curiosity. We were very different but—I didn’t want to be. I wanted to be accepted, popular, and well-liked. Even many years later after I was a born-again adult, these feelings of inadequacy didn’t just disappear—in fact, they drove me to be an over-achiever.
On some subconscious level, the feeling of inadequacy probably still affects me—even today but—it’s different now—because it does NOT control me.
- God is NOT inadequate.
- God achieves more in ONE second—than I will in my entire lifetime.
When God is LORD of my heart, soul, and mind—my inadequacies don’t matter because—IN HIM—I am supremely confident.
When the Apostle Paul begged God to take away his inadequacies, God told him:
“My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” (11 Corinthians 12:9)
And Paul responded:
“Therefore most gladly I will rather BOAST in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” (II Corinthians 12:10)
Is this how you view your inadequacies—so grateful for them that you glorify God because of them???
The only way we get to the place where we view our inadequacies as opportunities to brag on God is—to KNOW that our greatest HOPE is in GOD—and LIVE like it is TRUE.
Hope in God is a gift, and when we are filled with His presence—we ABOUND in this hope!!! Paul prayed for his fellow Christians:
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 15:13)
Hope in God as the LORD of our life takes the pressure off of us; we don’t feel inadequate because—we know HIM.
