Have you ever considered how different your life would be if everything you did was powered by the same force that energizes the sun, the galaxies, the earth, and every living creature? One day, as I was asking God to show me His ways and guide my day, He engaged me with this simple thought:
“Everything you do today can be powered by Me.”
I was speechless.
My mind was blown!
Oh, how I underestimate the power He has placed inside my born again soul and spirit. Remember the Holy Spirit-inspired words of Paul the Apostle spoken from prison?
“I can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Philippians 4:13
Paul’s power had NOTHING to do with the restrictions on his physical freedom!
I’ve always wanted to be an influential Christian leader, but it came as a surprise to me on how little my effectiveness has to do with being a lawyer or having plenty of physical resources. In fact, sometimes those things simply get in the way because they make us less dependent upon God and so—we operate within our own power—instead of HIS power. The attributes and resources of this physical world which generally make a person powerful—armies, money, a large social media following, incredible talent, or a brilliant mind—are ALL limited and fragile.
Read this prayer of Paul and ask yourself: What does it mean?
“[W]hat is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places.”
Ephesians 1:19-20
You see, it doesn’t matter if you are confined to a wheelchair or if you are Dave Hoff who currently holds the men’s equipped total world record with a 3,103 lb total (1,273.1 lb squat, 1,014.1 bench press, and 815.7 lb deadlift). If you are a child of God, you possess mind-blowing power. In fact…
…each child of God possesses the power that raised Christ from the dead.
Let that sink in!
So how do we come to possess this supernatural power? Believe it or not—it’s the opposite of what the world teaches us about power. The Bible says:
“For thus says the High and Lofty One Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: ‘I dwell in the high and holy place, with him who has a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, And to revive the heart of the contrite ones.’”
Isaiah 57:15
In order to possess the power of Almighty God, we must have a humble spirit. We must surrender every part of our life and heart to God. Jesus was surrendered to the Heavenly Father and He said:
“I can of Myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is righteous, because I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me.”
John 5:30
Jesus was submitted to the Father even to the point of death when He prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane “not my will but thine be done.” Jesus, the most powerful human who ever walked upon earth, didn’t demand respect or throw His weight around. He set the standard for submission to the Father.
There was nothing Jesus asked others to do that He wasn’t willing to do Himself.
This Christ-like humility is impossible without having a deep relationship with God. Whatever position you’re in—employer, friend, parent, politician, teacher, etc.—is an opportunity to lead by Christ’s example of humility. Like Him, our works and words should bear witness of our Heavenly Father. He is the ultimate authority and when we are completely submitted to Him, our life is supernaturally powerful.
There is no greater power on earth than the power of Almighty God and—His power belongs to the humble.
