A Lesson From My Woodland Neighbor, The Crippled Doe

Share

Deer and fawn

One morning a doe with a horribly injured leg, brought her twin fawns to graze just 50 feet from my back deck. It was heart-breaking to see that graceful creature walk with such a terrible limp, her leg dangling uselessly. It had to be extremely painful. I knew it would be very difficult for her to move quickly enough to escape a predator and help her fawns evade danger. As I observed her, God gave me a thought:

“Her injury is to less than 10% of her body, yet it hinders the entirety of her perfectly healthy body AND endangers her fawns—who are following her everywhere she goes.”

What a powerful spiritual application!

We live in a world where evil is constantly trying to cripple us. There is ENOUGH bad stuff in our life that we DO NOT cause like—sickness, unkindness, unpaid bills, the toilet backing up, or, you name it; and—these things throw up road-blocks which tend to hinder us from living 100%. So why would we CHOOSE to do anything else to cripple our life? Now THAT is just crazy! BUT—when we choose to hold onto behaviors that conflict with God’s Word it cripples our ability to glorify God. We are left limping through life and vulnerable to the enemy. We are also endangering those who are following us! Sobering thought, right?

The Bible says:

“Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.”

1 Corinthians‬ ‭6:19-20‬

We simply cannot glorify God in our BODY, while we harbor the sin that crucified Him in our HEART.

God plainly reveals the critical impact of sin on our relationship with Him:

“If I regard iniquity in my heart, The Lord will not hear me.” ‭‭

Psalms‬ ‭66:18‬ ‭‬‬https://bible.com/bible/114/psa.66.18.NKJV

If you are holding onto thoughts and behaviors that are inconsistent with God’s Word, you are jeopardizing your intimate relationship with the Creator and Sustainer of all things. Is there anything you’re holding onto that is really worth crippling your spiritual life over?

Oh Lord, help me release anything I’m holding onto that would make me a lame Christian! I want to live healthy and free!!!

Basic Bible Concepts: Part 9 Spiritual Growth

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you, when they revile and persecute you and say, all kinds of evil against you falsely, for my sake, rejoice and be exceeding. Glad for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” ~Matthew 5:10-12
