Dress For REAL Success In The Armor Of God, Part 6: The Helmet Of Salvation

When we are born again, we are issued a helmet of salvation which provides a stronghold for our mind so that we can live in REAL success. Paul writes:

“Therefore take up the WHOLE armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand…and take the helmet of salvation.” ‭‭

Ephesians‬ ‭6‬:‭10‬-‭18‬ ‬‬

The significance of safeguarding our head while engaging in warfare requires little convincing. By calling salvation a “helmet,” we gain a clear understanding of its purpose. While we can never lose our salvation; we can certainly live like we don’t know its POWER! It represents the unwavering hope of salvation—a profound concept that protects our mind. However, “hope,” as the Bible portrays it, holds a far more potent meaning than the way we commonly use the word. In everyday language, we might say, “I hope it does not rain,” which often carries a sense of doubt, acknowledging that a situation is beyond our control.

But, my friend, BIBLICAL hope is a formidable force.

Hope dwells in the mind; and our hope—in the salvation of God— is a helper to protect our mind. So crucial is hope that a person can endure days without food or water, but if hope is taken away, despair may drive them to the brink of self-destruction. The Bible tells us that the GOSPEL holds the key to our unwavering hope….

“in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight—if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard…”‭‭‬ ‬‬

Colossians‬ ‭1‬:‭22‬-‭23

“…in hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began.” ‭‭‬ ‬‬

Titus‬ ‭1‬:‭2

You see, to grasp Biblical hope, we must understand GOD’s promises. God, who does NOT lie, is the foundation for BIBLICAL hope. For example, hope in God is NEVER “I hope God hears me,” like “I hope it will rain.” NO—He DOES hear us! When we fill our mind with His promises instead of the empty promises our  enemies feed us of money, power, family, etc.—we cultivate our confidence in the hope that we have in the Lord Jesus Christ. Hebrews 6:19 beautifully describes hope as “an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast.”

When we belong to Christ, our future is secure for eternity! To put on the helmet of our salvation is to renew our mind in the knowledge of God’s promises which flow from this gracious gift!!! We maintain the strong hope of our salvation by filling our mind with Scriptures that fortify us with this essential virtue.

“No king is saved by the multitude of an army; a mighty man is not delivered by great strength. A horse is a vain hope for safety; neither shall it deliver any by its great strength. Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him, On those who hope in His mercy, to deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine. Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield. For our heart shall rejoice in Him, because we have trusted in His holy name. Let Your mercy, O Lord, be upon us, Just as we hope in You.” ‭‭‬

Psalms‬ ‭33‬:‭16‬-‭22

“My soul faints for Your salvation, but I hope in Your Word.” ‬ ‬‬

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭119‬:‭81

“But those who wait [or hope] on the Lord Shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” ‭‭‬ ‬‬

Isaiah‬ ‭40‬:‭31

Ah my friend, we CAN be sure of our salvation and have an impenetrable defense against any thoughts of doubt the enemy plants in our mind. Because the power of Christ resides within us, our enemy no longer has any hold on us (Romans 6:10) The ENEMY knows this—but do WE??? Do we live like we are invincible? To strap on the helmet of salvation, is to destroy every one of the enemy’s arguments against the knowledge of God, and to take every negative thought captive.

“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,” ‬‬

2 Corinthians‬ ‭10‬:‭4‬-‭5‬

Today, strap on your helmet of salvation tightly and keep it fully functioning by doing the following:

  • 1. RENEW your mind in God’s Word because the outcome of the battle in your mind determines the course of your day; indeed, for your entire life. Romans 12:1–2 instructs us to renew our minds by allowing the truth of God’s Word to rid us of any thoughts that conflict with it. Allow God’s truth to continually purge the enemy’s trash, lies, and confusion from your mind and replace it with His thoughts.
  • 2. REJECT doubts that arise from circumstances. We are sensory creatures and tend to limit ourselves to our five physical senses while disregarding the spiritual senses God gave us when we were born again. Do not allow physical circumstances to control your thinking and create doubt. Practice believing the impossible! (Hebrews 11:6; 1 Peter 1:8–9)
  • 3. ADOPT an eternal perspective. When life crashes in around you, you must remember your salvation is the most precious gift you have received. You can find all your hope in Him and daily live by Psalm 73:25: “Whom have I in heaven but You? And there is none upon earth that I desire besides You.” ‬‬

Our helmet is most effective when we treasure it above all other things. The salvation Jesus purchased for us must be the greatest treasure of our heart; for we cannot serve two masters. When pleasing the Lord is our supreme delight, He insulates our minds against the suggestions, desires, and traps—the enemy lays for us.

When we choose to guard our minds from worldly influences and instead think on things that honor Christ, we wear our salvation as a protective helmet that “guards our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”(Philippians 4:7)
