Fly On, Sara

Fly On Sara 4-4

For two years, I asked the Lord for a song for my daughter Sara. Then, on Sara’s birthday in 2026, God downloaded this song into my heart just for Sara. God’s perfect timing made it into the chorus: forever but right on time. God makes “everything beautiful in his time.” (Ecclesiastes 3:11)

I wanted Sara to know beyond any doubt–she is especially loved by God, and she is especially loved by her mama. She is “Perfect and beautifully made,” and “God had a plan before I gave you a name.” Before I ever held Sara, before I chose her name, God already knew her. He reminds each of us: “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee.” (Jeremiah 1:5)  Every parent should say this to their children: You are not an accident. You were God’s idea first.

Every parent eventually learns that loving a child means letting her go. Sara has mountains to climb and dreams to chase, and my job now is to cheer, pray, and trust. But she doesn’t fly alone and her strength to fly comes from God. (Isaiah 40:31) The bridge is honest because life is hard:  “I can’t promise you an easy road, just know love will never let go.” Jesus never promised otherwise: “In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33) What I can promise is that nothing will pull her out of God’s hand. No distance, no failure, no hard seasons “shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:39)

Sara has always had a smile that lights a room, the same laugh she had as a little girl. “Grace the whole world with your smile, shine the light mile after mile.” My prayer is that she keeps carrying that light wherever she goes, because it points back to the One who gave it to her. “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16)

Sara, fly on. You are loved by God, and you are loved by your mama.

lyrics

VERSE 1

Sara, you make me smile,
laughing just like when you were a child.
Perfect and beautifully made,
God had a plan before I gave you a name.

CHORUS

Sara, fly on, Sara,
on that mountain you climb,
find your greatest dream,
a love divine,
forever but right on time.
Sara, darlin’ Sara, fly on.

VERSE 2

Sara, so young and bold,
your life is a story to be told.
And even when we’re far apart,
no matter where you fly, you’re always in my heart.

BRIDGE

Sara, fly on, Sara,
I can’t promise you an easy road,
just know love will never let go.
Grace the whole world with your smile,
shine the light mile after mile.

CHORUS

Sara, fly on, Sara,
on that mountain you climb,
find your greatest dream,
a love divine,
forever but right on time.
