Your soul has an eternal, priceless value—at least God thinks so because He sent His Son to redeem you from death.
How deep is your understanding about the great value of your soul?
Jesus said:
“For WHAT will it profit a man if he gains the WHOLE world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?”
Mark 8:36-37
Think about what you are exchanging for your soul? It’s so easy to get side-tracked by the enemies of our soul—the world, the flesh, and the devil—who lure us in and promise us the greatest pleasures. I can tell you story after story about how I cheapened my soul by trying to find satisfaction in things less than God. Satisfying our soul with sin—NEVER works!
We are created with a body, soul, and spirit. The soul is the pivotal part of each human. George MacDonald said, “You don’t HAVE a soul. You ARE a Soul. You HAVE a body.” The Bible identifies people as “souls” and attributes value based upon the soul. (Proverbs 11:30, Ezekiel 18:30. Acts 2:41) God created the soul. (Jeremiah 38:16) Our soul needs salvation. (James 1:21, Ezekiel 18:4, Leviticus 17:11) The redeemed soul is what is purified (not for salvation, because Jesus does that; but for relationship) through obedience to the truth by the Holy Spirit. (1 Peter 1:22) Our soul is what we turn over to Jesus—to find rest. (Matthew 11:29)
The worldly pursuits and harmful relationships I worshipped left scarred walls in every room of my soul—but God has moved in and—is redecorating each room in my soul. Relationships—that I wanted more than I wanted God—turned me against Him. Success that I pursued—more than I pursued God—made me a slave. You see, we all suffer damage to our soul when we allow disobedience to replace the presence of God in our soul. But—God loves us so much that He gives us way more chances than we give ourselves or—each other.
Your soul is precious.
It’s worth more than gold, or a relationship with the hottest dude or most gorgeous lady on earth. Don’t sell out for anything less than the best just because you feel desperate, lonely, unloved, or needy!
God WILL take care of your soul better than anyone, or anything in this world!
