A Brave New Year: Getting Ready for 2026

Share

new year

On the brink of the New Year, I felt myself getting anxious. I began to wonder how I would have the time and resources to accomplish the tasks God has given me. Ugh! But—this is why I’m so grateful for God’s Word, which reminds me that if I’m following God’s plan, then—HE will accomplish it all. You see, my tendency is to think I must accomplish His plans—without Him. Silly, right? Well, the struggle is real! This is the perfect time to meditate on Psalm 40:

“I waited patiently for the Lord; and He inclined to me, and heard my cry. He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps. He has put a new song in my mouth—Praise to our God; many will see it and fear, and will trust in the Lord. Blessed is that man who makes the Lord his trust, and does not respect the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies. Many, O Lord my God, are Your wonderful works which You have done; and Your thoughts toward us cannot be recounted to You in order; if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.” Psalms‬ ‭40‬:‭1‬-‭5‬

God does more in the universe in the hour I sit here having my quiet time than I could accomplish in a million lifetimes. Far more, actually.

I need to be reminded that I don’t just experience His care—I exist because of it.

Just the simple act of sitting down with a friend, having a fireside chat, and having a cup of tea requires billions of things to go right in my body. My brain fires 400 billion synaptic junctions in a single gram of tissue just to coordinate a tiny motion. My joints, bones, and muscles work in perfect harmony so that I can stand, walk, and maintain balance. None of this happens by accident. None of it is self-sustaining. All of it requires the ongoing care of our Creator, who holds all things together.

And God maintains far more than our bodies. At every moment, He sustains the entire universe—every molecule, every star, every heartbeat, every breath.

Why should I fear the future when I have such a Wonderful Counselor and Almighty God?

Yet, the New Year always brings a degree of uncertainty to my mind, especially when I begin focusing on the delicate balance of all the things that must go right in order to maintain all the irons in the fire right now! Ah, but Psalm 40 holds both the ASSURANCE and the ANSWER to my anxiety.

The ASSURANCE: If God is sustaining His intricate creation every second AND if He loved me enough to die for me—why would I doubt He will work ALL things for my good?

The ANSWER: I don’t need to work out all things. I simply need to follow the instructions of Psalm 40:8: “I delight to do Your will, O my God, and Your law is within my heart.” ‭‭

When I love God with all my mind and heart, confidence flows freely. Close to God, my thoughts and priorities are aligned to His will. I have assurance that He will take care of every part of my life. When my life belongs to Him, then every problem is His, too.

When the Bible says, “Your works are more than can be numbered,” this is the proof of what God is doing right in our life. It is everywhere. When we love Him—confidence comes from having more of His perspective and less of our own. Having His mind and His attitudes enlightens us to realize that the power of God outweighs our projects by a billion to one.

Loving God and making Him the center of our life gives us incredible freedom to live!

When Christ is our center, He centers us, and every problem is viewed in light of His nature and character. A mind centered on Christ is a calm mind. It’s an anxiety-free mind. We can face the new year with joyful anticipation.

God is doing more things right and good at this minute—than we could ever count.

He sustains all things.

He has a plan for 2026 because He is already there.

We don’t need to know the plan; we simply need to stay close to the One who makes the best plans!

Prayer:

Father, thank You for sustaining every detail of my life with the same power that upholds the universe. Thank You for thinking of me with thoughts more numerous than I can count, and for proving Your love through the sacrifice of Your Son. As I step into 2026, reveal any area I have not surrendered to You. Be the center of my greatest desires so that Your peace guards me and His perspective guides me. Remind me of Your immeasurable goodness, and help me trust that You are working all things together for my good. Establish my steps and fill my mouth with a new song of praise. In Jesus’ name, Amen
