One of the greatest miracles of salvation is this: God makes us “fully alive” or—spiritually alive.
What does this mean?
Well, if you’ve studied human design, what it does NOT mean is that our physical body is morally better. Rather, our inner person (soul and spirit) is now alive to God’s presence and able to communicate with Him.
“And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins.” Ephesians 2:1
Before we are born again, we are spiritually dead—disconnected from God, unable to perceive Him or commune with Him. But when we surrender to Christ, our dead spirit is revived by the power of the Holy Spirit. This is FAR MORE than just a feeling. Suddenly, we are not only acutely aware of God, but we long for His presence and all the benefits of knowing Him. We desire His Word. We crave His presence. Like a newborn baby taking its first breath, the born-again believer has a hunger for spiritual nourishment. Peter explains:
“As newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the Word, that you may grow thereby.” 1 Peter 2:2
This spiritual hunger isn’t dry religion—it’s evidence of abundance. It is not a desert of bones—it’s an oasis of life. When we have truly been made alive in Christ, the Word of God becomes more than ink on a page. It becomes breath, water, and food for the soul. It is our most necessary source of nourishment and truth.
“Your words were found, and I ate them, and Your Word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart; for I am called by Your name, O Lord God of hosts.” Jeremiah 15:16
“Your Word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.” Psalm 119:105
God’s Word matures us. The stronger we grow, the more our life changes those around us for God’s glory. This is called discipleship, and Jesus made it clear—it is NOT optional. It’s the call of every believer. He said:
“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations… teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:19–20
The spiritually alive crave God’s presence. We long to hear His voice, to follow His lead, to walk in His truth. But those who are still spiritually dead cannot understand this relationship. Paul explains:
“But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God… because they are spiritually discerned.” 1 Corinthians 2:14
This is why so many people say, “I don’t feel God.” They are still spiritually dead. Salvation is the awakening. And once that awakening happens—everything should change. We WILL desire God, as the Psalmist did:
“As the deer pants for the water brooks, So pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.” Psalm 42:1–2
Are you fully alive in Christ? Or are you still trying to reason your way to peace and satisfaction? Jesus didn’t come to improve your life. He came to raise you from spiritual death.
My friend, don’t settle for religious knowledge without spiritual life. If you haven’t experienced the rebirth Jesus spoke of in John 3:16, then today is the day for your salvation! And if you are born again—don’t waste your life in a spiritual coma. Seek Him daily. Feed on His Word. Walk in His Spirit. Live fully alive. We have the immense opportunity to ”live and move and have our being” IN Christ! Acts 17:28a
Prayer:
Father God, Thank You for making me alive through Jesus Christ. Thank You for breathing Your Spirit into my heart and awakening me to Your love, Your Word, and Your presence. Forgive me for the times I’ve drifted into spiritual dullness. Stir my soul again. Help me hunger for Your truth like never before. Make me fully alive—not just in belief, but in relationship, in obedience, and in joy. May I live every day aware of You, walking in Your Spirit, and pointing others to the eternal life that is only found in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
