Your Life CAN Be Eternally Meaningful!

Share

meaningful life

Why does it take a tragic event—like being diagnosed with terminal cancer or divorce—to make us contemplate whether our life is meaningful? If I review what I did yesterday, is there anything that was jammed into my schedule today that will really matter, say—a year from now? It’s tragic to think that we could live our entire life—just to make memories that will fade within a generation or two.

The great blessing is, that our life CAN matter—not just a year from now—but for ALL of eternity.

BUT—the degree of wonderful and eternal change we can work with our LIFE directly depends on WHAT we LOVE the MOST. Jesus said:

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Matthew 6:19-21

If the pursuit of pleasure, wealth, success, acceptance, friends, family, etc., are the treasures that consume our heart, how can we expect our life to have any eternal significance? BUT—these physical pursuits CAN make an eternal difference WHEN they are part of our eternal purpose to glorify God. For example, my law practice is my greatest mission field. For the most part, people come see me during the worst or hardest times of their life. What an opportunity to not just help them with their legal problem, but to also lead them to Jesus who will heal their soul!

Each person who has received the GIFT OF SALVATION—has a built in mission field right in front of them!

Our profession, parenthood, education, marriage, success, beauty, athleticism, friendships, etc., can ALL be avenues for God’s glory. Within each gift, we can carry out the Great Commission given to us by Jesus. The key is to love God more than we love anything or anyone else! He will transform worthless pursuits—otherwise subject to destruction by “moth and rust,” into—great heavenly treasures!!!

When God is the greatest treasure of our heart, then every area of our life is transformed into something eternally meaningful and beautiful.

Basic Bible Concepts: Part 9 Spiritual Growth

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you, when they revile and persecute you and say, all kinds of evil against you falsely, for my sake, rejoice and be exceeding. Glad for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” ~Matthew 5:10-12
