WHO We Are And WHAT We Need Most

Share

who you are

After we are born again and belong to the family of God, we have taken the first critical step to understanding who we are and what we need most. We have realized our desperate need for God and completely surrendered our life to Him. In exchange, He has breathed His life into our soul and spirit. We have the ability to KNOW HIM.

Knowing GOD is the key to knowing YOURSELF.

The Bible says:

God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

Genesis 1:27 NKJV

But my friend, surrendering to God to maintain the strong relationship is—a lifelong struggle because—until we understand who we are and what we need most, we often get lost looking in the wrong places. Because we are created in the image of God, we have a desperate need for a relationship with Him.

Our need for God is so critical, it is like our need for oxygen.

Unfortunately, if you’re like me, and don’t understand this need after you’re born again, you may spend your entire life trying to fill that gaping hole with other things. Nothing but God will satisfy us. Christians, just like those who are not born again, often spiritually starve themselves on the cornhusks of the world’s empty promises. We become addicted to the things of the world—drugs, porn, wealth, education, job, status, athletics, “love,” food, travel, sex—and other sources of temporary satisfaction.

But, my friend, when all these things fail to satisfy us and we turn around and surrender our life to God, we find unimaginable satisfaction—the kind that eclipses ANYTHING the world has ever given us.

That’s because God designed us to KNOW Him. This relationship which we once had as a child, is lost when we choose to willfully sin. But it is re-born when we’re born again into His family. However, we need to be diligently seeking to know Him better and growing the relationship. Otherwise, we become much like a baby born into a royal family, who wanders into the streets and is adopted by thugs. He would live without ever knowing the royalty from whence he came or knowing about the generous resources at his disposal. He would grow up not even knowing who he was or where he came from and would lose out on all of the privileges of his birthright.

My friend, if you are God’s child, you have inherited His royal lineage and all of the privileges of His eternal kingdom and resources.

God wants us to know Him. He wants to raise us right. He wants us to experience the blessings of His royal family. When we place Him on the throne of our heart and make Him our greatest desire—we discover everything we needed but never found in the world. GOD’s LOVE for us and His Word lovingly instructs us in this TRUTH:

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.

1 John 2:15-17 NKJV

I lived feeding on corn husks for far too long, and I am so grateful that God drew this prodigal daughter back. The more I surrender to Him, the more I—KNOW who I am; LOVE who I am; and discover HIS PURPOSE for my life. Oh, how He loves us and longs for ALL of His children to be satisfied in Him! He longs to fill us to overflowing with HIS wisdom, power, peace, joy, and love!

When we surrender ALL to God, He gives us the most perfect picture of WHO WE ARE and SATISFIES our deepest desires!

Basic Bible Concepts: Part 9 Spiritual Growth

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you, when they revile and persecute you and say, all kinds of evil against you falsely, for my sake, rejoice and be exceeding. Glad for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” ~Matthew 5:10-12
