Today is National Aviation Day, the day that we recognize the contributions of so many people to the many ways in which we benefit from the field of aviation. For centuries, humankind has been fascinated by flight. The airplanes that we enjoy today are built on the research and experiments of many. Incredibly technical missions are accomplished today in the field of aviation that require strict specifications and leave no room for error. The same strict specifications that apply to those controlling the aircraft, also apply to those assembling the aircraft. One single mistake could cost many lives and billions of dollars. Just as the Newton’s laws of inertia, acceleration, and action/reaction require strict conformance for aircraft safety; so, too, do God’s laws. His way is the only way to ensure our safety!
Internationally recognized comedian Steven Harvey stunned many of his Christian fans after he revealed that he believes there’s more than one way to Heaven. The host of The Steve Harvey Morning Show, Family Feud, and Celebrity Family Feud identifies himself as a Christian; yet in January of 2021, Harvey posted a video on his YouTube channel titled “How Steve Harvey Prays” and he said:
“There’s no one way to Heaven, no one way to paradise. It’s like television, now there’s [sic] over 800 channels on cable, and they’re all pretty entertaining. So, I’m pretty sure that to get to Heaven, there’s got to be more than one route. Because somebody watching another channel or taking another channel than you, they’re still getting entertained, and they’re probably still getting to Heaven.”
Is this true? Is this what the “Christ” of a person claiming to be a “Christian” has said? Many Christians are labeled “narrow minded” when they take the position that there is only one way to heaven. But, my friend, if you believe the Bible is the Word of God, then to believe it is to simply believe what God says. Mr. Harvey’s statement is in direct contradiction to the Words of Jesus himself who said:
“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father EXCEPT through Me.”
John 14:6
Does God have the RIGHT to determine if there is only one way to be reconciled to Him?
If God is who He says He is, then He certainly DOES. It’s interesting how people think Christians are
“narrow minded” to believe that there is only one way to heaven; yet, they readily agree that it is okay for there to be only one way to do many other less important things. For example, in aviation, there is only one way for a pilot to land an F-18 on the 300-foot airstrip of a Naval aircraft carrier. What is that ONE way? It’s the way the Navy says you must do it. More specifically, it is when, where, and how, the air boss says you will do it. There are more precise measurements, rules, timing, and working parts to landing on a bobbing aircraft carrier than an untrained pilot could ever fathom. The pilot must do it by the Navy’s book and they must do it ONLY with the permission and at the command of the air boss. Otherwise, there will be no landing on the aircraft carrier.
If you try to land any other way, there are serious consequences!
There are precise rules for many things in life that most people accept without much fuss—sports, practicing law, driving down the road, etc. These rules are often rigid and strictly enforced. You are not allowed to carry the ball in your hands in soccer but you can in football; you are not allowed to drive the wrong way into oncoming traffic; you are not allowed to introduce evidence in court without a proper foundation; etc.
So why does humanity so easily buy the lie that there are many ways to God and that HE does NOT have rules about who gets to enter into HIS presence in heaven?
My friend, we have three enemies who NEVER want us to know the truth about how to get to heaven. That is, that salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone. It is not by good works. We cannot have the gift of everlasting life any other way than through Jesus. The reason God inspires these devotionals is to preach the GOSPEL which is the POWER of God to draw ALL humanity to salvation. If you are reading this devotional and you have never accepted God’s marvelous and free gift of salvation, today is the day! If you know someone who is not born again, and you don’t know how to share the Gospel with them, share the link on this website about how to accept the gift of salvation.
Tomorrow may be too late.
“Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
Isaiah 55:6-9
