Some of you know that during my second round of COVID, I experienced a significant degree of brain fog. It was so bad that I was afraid for my future. I wondered if I would even be continue to support myself by practicing law. Was I going to have to stop writing? Would I be totally dependent on someone else to take care of me? These were very scary and unsettling questions.
But through this terrible experience, God taught me what a priceless gift it is to have a sound mind.
A sound mind is a gift from God. It can be gone in an instant. This gift should be treasured. It should be guarded from evil and fear. Without a sound mind we have a very limited existence. Indeed, without God, we have no existence at all. Our ability to have a sound mind is completely dependent on Him.
Our mind is a treasury—a gift from God—to be guarded from evil and used for His glory.
God reveals the truth about our mind in His Word:
“God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a SOUND MIND.”
II Timothy 1:7
“You will keep him in perfect PEACE, whose MIND is stayed on You, because he trusts in You. Trust in the Lord forever, For in YAH, the Lord, is everlasting strength.”
Isaiah 26:3-4
“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the RENEWING of your MIND, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
Romans 12:2
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will GUARD your hearts and MINDS through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—think on these things.”
Philippians 4:6-8
If you are anxious, fearful, confused, or your life seems out of control—remember—this is NOT how God intends for you to live. If you have not received His gift of salvation my friend, this is the first step. When you are His child, you are given the “mind of Christ.” (1 Corinthians 2:16) Then, after you come to know Him, you must passionately pursue the relationship. In this relationship, He will reveal the great treasury of His mind to you.
The treasure of God’s wisdom produces a sound mind.
