The Day I Knew I’d Fallen In Love With God

I’ll never forget the day I realized I’d fallen in love with God. It was on August 6, 2015 and I was with my son in Greece. By this time in my life, I was about three years into my journey of passionately pursuing God. When I’ve told this story in the past, people have asked me, “What did that look like?” Well, I was spending more and more time with God each morning. I had become very open to changing ANY area of my life that did not conform to His ways and I was truly seeking to live 100% according to His will.

This passionate pursuit of God was drawing me into a relationship with God that was surprisingly remarkable.

I was experiencing how God was my most faithful friend. However, on the morning of August 6, as I spent time with Him and began to be filled with the now-familiar comfort, peace, and joy of His presence, there was something else. It was a rush of the most deep and overflowing sense of being completely accepted and loved. I felt as if I’d been wrapped up in the arms of someone so powerful that I never wanted to leave. I wanted to be still. I knew I was loved for who He made me—not for my accomplishments or my net worth.

It was so gloriously different that I knew I must be falling in love with God.

I’d discovered the remarkable, perfect Lover of my soul. His presence lit a spark of anticipation in the deepest part of my heart. I wanted this love relationship to burn brightly and consume my life so that everyone could see the great delight of being in His presence. For the first time in my life, I couldn’t wait to be with God every morning.

That morning, I knew God was the love I’d searched for my entire life.

This experience was pivotal and—in 9 years—it has not changed! God is the one with whom I want to weather all of life’s trials and celebrate every triumph. His track record of love and friendship has proven He will never abandon me. He is always my strength and comfort. I realized that without Him—I have nothing. I am nothing. This experience was so powerful that God inspired me to write the song, “Whom Have I? My son Jon and I recorded it. The lyrics were inspired by Psalm 73:

“I am continually with You; You hold me by my right hand. You will guide me with Your counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.”

“Whom have I in heaven but You? And there is none upon earth that I desire besides You.”

”My flesh and my heart fail; but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”

Psalms 73:23-26

Ah, my friend, I have discovered no love in this world that compares to God’s love. He holds my hand and my heart. His presence guides me and the passion of His intense love moves me. His presence is my ultimate comfort—greater than even those who are my closest friends and family. He not only provides everything I need but He also—fills my cup to overflowing with more than I could have ever asked for or imagined. No one I’ve ever known compares to Him.

I’ve fallen in love with God and I can’t ever imagine life without Him!

He wants each one of us to know Him and experience His love. That’s why He came to earth and paid the ultimate sacrifice. Do you know God? Do you experience His presence? Does your heart cry out: “You are all I want; You are all I need. Whom have I in Heaven besides Thee?” If you are born again, seek Him with all of your heart—He will be found. In Him you will find everything you have ever desired.
