The Best Gifts of Christmas: God’s Word

Share

God's Word Bible

“I have rejoiced in the way of Your testimonies, as much as in all riches.” Psalms 118:14

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭119‬:‭‭105‬

One of the most precious gifts God gives us at Christmas is His Word—both the written Word and the Living Word (Jesus Christ, Himself). His Word is not simply instruction; it is a gift of Himself—His heart, His voice, His presence. He is truth and grace. Without it, our life slowly becomes like a neglected pond—shallow, stagnant, and overrun with things that ruin it. (Credit for this pond idea goes to Peter Kovach for his message on November 16, 2025).

A healthy pond is a wonder when it’s built well—cool, clear, and alive. But pond builders know it doesn’t happen by building the pond just any old way. If the pond is too shallow, sunlight warms the entire depth, triggering algae blooms and stagnation. Water stays pure only when it is deep, continually refreshed, and gently stirred by movement. The science behind it is simple: both depth and flow keep the water vibrant. Spiritually, the same is true for us. God gifts us His Word so our heart can become a deep, fresh, life-giving reservoir—something beautiful, not stagnant.

God’s Word is the gift that reaches into the deepest places!

One of the wonders of God’s Word is how gently and faithfully it reaches into the deepest places of our heart. It uncovers what we cannot see, frees what we’ve buried, and touches what no human wisdom can heal. Hebrews 4:12 tells us, “For the word of God is living and powerful… and a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” What a gift—that God would love us enough to reveal what hurts us and lift it from our soul. His Word doesn’t dig to shame us; it digs to heal us. It goes deep because love goes deep.

God’s Word is the Gift that fills us with Living Water!

And the same Word that reaches the hidden places is the Word who fills them. This is the miracle and mystery of Christmas: The Word who exposes is the Word who satisfies. The Bible explains that “the Word was God” (John 1:1), and that Word came to us in Jesus Christ. And this same Jesus stands and invites us, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink.” (John 7:37)

Jesus is the One who clears space in our soul and pours Living Water into it. He fills every place He enters. He satisfies every thirst He reveals. He is what makes us feel so alive that we become vibrant and satisfied branches—bearing more fruit that we can ever keep to ourselves. Our life becomes a deep well and a fruitful garden.

The world did not welcome Jesus or His Word. It still doesn’t. But when we are born again, our soul and spirit are “in Christ” and we are enabled to desire Him. We welcome His Word as a gift—not an obligation—and our life becomes a place of peace. His presence works in us and we rest easy in Him. “Search me, O God” (Psalm 139:23–24) becomes a prayer of trust, not of fear. We desire that God reveal and root out anything in our life that hides His presence.

Jesus promised:

“Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” ‭‭John‬ ‭4‬:‭13‬-‭14‬

God’s Word keeps us vibrant, clear, and alive; there is nothing in this world that compares!
Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You for the gift of Your Word—written and living. Thank You that You love me enough to reach the deep places of my heart and fill them with Your presence. Make my life a deep reservoir of Your truth and a fresh fountain of Your Living Water. Keep me close. Help me forsake the sins I love. Make me faithful to Your Word. May the words of Your heart be the meditation of my soul day and night. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
