Oh Johnny Boy

Oh-Johnny-Boy_cover

Kimberly Faith wrote this song after her son Jon made the decision to join the Army. It’s her personal message to her son and prays it will inspire peace and hope for every mother who has a child choosing to serve their country in the Armed Forces. It is borrowed from the Irish tune “Oh Danny Boy.”

LYRICS

VERSE 1

Oh, Johnny Boy the trumpet sound is calling
Oe’r mountain high and sea to shining sea
You’ve answered not in fear or desperate trembling
For ’tis might God Who covers over thee

CHORUS

Let courage rise, from those who’ve gone before you
Who now stand strong before the throne of God
And let your heart rise up and fight courageous
And ne’r stand down, my son, until your race is run

BRIDGE
My dear son, should life untimely leave you
I know the dark will never be your fate
For God will carry your dear should to Heaven
And there’s you’ll lay your sword and rest your heart in peace

CHORUS

So let courage rise, from those who’ve gone before you
Who now stand strong before the throne of God
And let your heart rise up and fight courageous
And ne’r stand down, my son, until your race is run

Oh, Johnny Boy, how much The Father loves you so
