Nurturing Healthy Emotions, Part 3: Created To Live In God’s Divine Purpose

emotions divine purpose

The Bible makes it abundantly clear that we were created IN God’s image and FOR His glory.

God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.‭‭

Genesis‬ ‭1‬:‭‭27‬ ‭NKJV

Everyone who is called by My name, Whom I have created for My glory; I have formed him, yes, I have made him.‬‬

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭43‬:‭7‬ ‭NKJV

Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

1 Corinthians‬ ‭10‬:‭31‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.‭‭

Matthew‬ ‭5‬:‭16‬ ‭NKJV

For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.

1 Corinthians‬ ‭6‬:‭20‬ ‭NKJV

God is perfectly loving, righteous and just. The character of God is impeccable. He is not like us. He is not an emotional train wreck. We were not created to live like a wrecking ball. He gives us His Word to teach us how to be more like Him. Of course, we can only begin to act within the HOLY character of God after our inner man is born again and we attain the righteousness of Christ.

But…we MUST grow.

We must put on the whole armor of God because it is protection against our mind and heart. Our enemies want to keep our emotions out of control and use them to destroy us. They want to use our emotions to wreak havoc on our relationships and on our testimony. Paul the Apostle urgently implored Christians to submit to God and be transformed by the renewing of our mind:

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, HOLY, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be TRANSFORMED by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. ‭‭

Romans‬ ‭12‬:‭1‬-‭2‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The Bible commands us to humble ourselves to the will of God and to cast out all thoughts that conflict with the Word of God:

Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭5:6-7‬ ‭KJV‬‬

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (for the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. ‭‭

2 Corinthians‬ ‭10:3-5‬ ‭KJV

God makes it simple for us. We are commanded to love Him with all our heart (make HIM our center). As we do this, He reveals to us more and more of who we are in Him. We begin to become secure in who we are. We love who we are. It goes without saying that making him the center of our life means that we are going to be living in a way that is submitted to his Word and His will for our life. When we are no longer the center of our life, we do not have to live with unhinged emotions. This brings us full circle in this series.

We have healthy emotions when: God is our center; we know WHO we are in CHRIST; and we live for HIS glory!

As a final thought, God is even so good as to even give us great thoughts to meditate on in order to secure His PEACE that passes understanding:

Be ANXIOUS for NOTHING, but in EVERYTHING by prayer and supplication, with THANKSGIVING, let your requests be made known to God; and the PEACE of God, which surpasses ALL understanding, will GUARD your HEARTS and MINDS through CHRIST Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—MEDITATE on these things. The things which you LEARNED and received and heard and saw in me, these DO, and the God of peace will be with you. ‭‭‬‬

Philippians‬ ‭4‬:‭6‬-‭9‬ ‭NKJV

In Christ, we have all we need to nurture the marvelous emotions God created for us to enjoy!

Basic Bible Concepts: Part 9 Spiritual Growth

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you, when they revile and persecute you and say, all kinds of evil against you falsely, for my sake, rejoice and be exceeding. Glad for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” ~Matthew 5:10-12
