Love To Fill A Lonely Heart

Share

lonely heart alone

Several years ago, right after my divorce, I was alone for the first time in over 20 years. For a short time, I floundered around trying to find love to fill my lonely heart. Then it hit me—I was searching for the same thing I had just walked away from—that is, another person to fulfill my deep desire to be loved. It was as if God took the blindfold off my eyes. He revealed to me that NO ONE—except HIM—was capable of loving me the way He made me to be loved. This revelation was the beginning of a love relationship I had never before understood.

I became intensely curious to EXPERIENCE God’s love!

Could God really fulfill the deepest desires of my heart as He promised in Proverbs 37:4? I decided to find out and to pursue God with the same passion that I had used to pursue relationships with the opposite sex.

After over 8 years of pursuing God—wow—there is nothing that compares with being loved by someone perfect! God’s love is personal and real. He is an intense Lover because He loves in a way that touches the deepest part of our soul—the part that lasts forever. When, through obedience and surrender to Him, we allow ourselves to be led into the deepest chamber of His love, we find a love that we never want to live without. Once we’ve experienced the love of God, it seems quite impossible to ever consider settling for less.

Knowing God’s love has also changed my perspective about what I desire most in a man. It’s not his looks or success—rather, a man who, first and foremost, SEEKS God and has EXPERIENCED being loved by God. Why? Because then, he will know how to love like God does. Can you imagine two people together who both desire to love with the same love they have experienced in Christ?

God is the only source of TRUE love!

God’s Word simply and profoundly defines love: “This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us.” (1 John 4:10a) Love comes from BEING LOVED BY GOD! A person who is running from God or a Christian who is living in disobedience to His Word is never going to experience the full measure of God’s intensely personal love. Our sin and disobedience are a slap in God’s face and separates us from His love; but our surrender places us in His loving arms. There is no place on earth like being in God’s love. When we are lonely, God doesn’t instruct us to SEEK love from others; rather, He instructs us to SEEK HIM and—then, we can GIVE love to others.‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ When we’re loving God and loving others—we rarely feel lonely.
