Living In Anticipation Of The Unknown

In all the craziness in our world today—do you fear the unknown? Do you fear economic failure, political chaos, war, and loss of security? Man—there is so much that seems to be going wrong that it’s easy to live in fear! If you’re like me, you don’t like to think about all the things that can go wrong. In fact, don’t we work hard to make sure everything will go RIGHT? It’s so easy to become over-preoccupied with planning and micromanaging so we lose our focus on the primary purpose God has given us. My friend, nearly every day I must remind myself to place God in control of ALL the details of my life, lest they consume me and rob me of God’s peace.

But when I run out of my own ability to handle life, I experience the opportunity to be amazed by God.

God is so good at my life! I have very little control over anything, but I can trust Him! The more I trust Him, the more I face each day with joy and peace. I anticipate the future—good or bad—because I can ALWAYS glorify Him in both. Trust in God provides relief because it removes my need to be in control. It removes fear. When we have experienced His strength, wisdom, and love—WE KNOW He is more powerful and trustworthy than we are. Even difficult days are faced with prayerful anticipation because it’s always exciting to see what God is going to do!

In fact, the more we learn to trust God with everything, the more we learn to live in the same wisdom as the rest of His creation.

The Psalmist wrote:

“O Lord, how manifold are your works! In wisdom have you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures. These all look to you, to give them their food in due season. When you give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are filled with good things. When you send forth your Spirit, they are created, and You renew the face of the ground.”

“May the glory of the Lord endure forever; may the Lord rejoice in his works.”

Psalms 104:24, 27-28, 30-31

Don’t you want to be more like the creatures of the earth and “look to” God for every need and desire? I sure do! God’s creatures naturally walk with their hands open to His goodness; and God’s children, who are created in His image, should walk with their heart open to His goodness. God is the Author of all of the goodness we enjoy.

When we trust God for ALL things, we have PEACE in the PRESENT, FAITH for the FUTURE, and HEALING from the PAST.

God is already in the future, He takes care of the present and He forgives the past. Dwelling in God’s presence gives us the ability to anticipate the future—not fear it. God has a plan; when we are close to Him—the peace of His presence is enough—we don’t always need to know the plan. We don’t need to scramble and scrabble like the rest of the world. Like the birds of the air, we carry on doing what God made us to do to glorify Him, and we trust He will supply our every need. Jesus said:

“Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?”

Matthew 6:25-27

My friend, God has given us the Spirit of power, love and a sound mind! Let’s stir each other up in great anticipation to know that no matter what our circumstances—TODAY—we can live for His glory!

“Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner, but share with me in the sufferings for the gospel according to the power of God, who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began…

2 Timothy 1:6-9

‬ The real battle is not fixing the mess ourselves; it’s staying close enough to God to let Him do it.

Basic Bible Concepts: Part 9 Spiritual Growth

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you, when they revile and persecute you and say, all kinds of evil against you falsely, for my sake, rejoice and be exceeding. Glad for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” ~Matthew 5:10-12
