It’s God, Not You. By Grace Edwards

Paul the Apostle, inspired by God, said:

“For the kingdom of God is not in word but in power.”

1 Corinthians 4:20

God reminds us, without Him, we can wordsmith all we want, but our words are less powerful—without His presence. He WILL be present in our life—if we let Him. We should not doubt His presence or power simply because we can’t see Him in a physical form. Just because we can’t see the sun, does not mean that it has fallen from the sky or become any less bright. The moon reflects the sun and illuminates the night sky with its reflection. Stormie Omartian wrote:

When we live by the power of God rather than our flesh, we don’t have to strive for power with our words. “For the kingdom of God is not in word but in power.” -1 Corinthians 4:20.

It’s not the words we speak that make a difference, it is the power of God accompanying them. You’ll be amazed at how much power your words have when you pray before you speak them. You’ll be even more amazed at what can happen when you shut up and let God work.

-Stormie Omartian, “The Power of a Praying Wife”

Similarly, inspired by God, Paul wrote:

“And my speech and my preaching were NOT with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in DEMONSTRATION of the Spirit and of power, that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.”

I Corinthians 2:4‭-‬5

During the recent elections, many people made carefully crafted statements designed to manipulate thinking and persuade voters. What a blessing that as Christians, we do not need to trust in the power of our own words to persuade people to come to God; but rather we can rest in the power of Christ. Nor do we need to give excuses, like Moses, who attempted to get out of leading the Children of Israel out of Egypt because of his inability to speak eloquently. (Exodus 4:10-12) God’s response to Moses today as it was to him:

“Who has made man’s mouth?”

If God wants something done, He will get it done. He will even use a donkey to speak if need be! (Numbers 22). We can rest in the confidence of knowing that God is all-powerful and all-knowing, and able to use our words) if we are only willing.

Draw close to GOD,

Give GOD all of you, and…

GOD will empower your words!
