How many times have you heard someone (maybe yourself) say “I hate myself!” I think this statement is a reflection of how little we know about how God wants us to view ourselves. Why? Because if we are a born-again child of God—we possess the absolute ability to love EXACTLY who God made us to be, and thus, to live in HIS supernatural joy. These two Proverbs give us a big clue to our soul-satisfaction:
“He who gets wisdom loves his own soul; He who keeps understanding will find good.”
Proverbs 19:8
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”
Proverbs 9:10
When our spirit is born-again, God’s HOLY Spirit makes our spirit alive. We have a new nature and we are equipped to HEAR (in other words, comprehend and apply) God’s wisdom for our life. Prior to being born-again, our spirit is dead, and God’s Word at best, provides just—some good rules for living. But the Bible takes it a step further and says God’s Word is “foolishness” to the person who is NOT born again. Paul wrote:
“These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.”
I Corinthians 2:13-14
Once we are “alive in Christ” we are enabled to be taught by the Holy Spirit—Who inspired the Word—so, of course, HE knows it better than we do. When we know God, we have the deepest respect for His Word—much like we would have for another human that we respect and revere. There is no one we know who compares to God. When we respect Him and His Word, we seek to KNOW MORE; that is, we “love wisdom.” In doing so—we love our own soul.
