How To Keep Your Soul Continually Satisfied

“Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” ‭‭John‬ ‭4:13-14‬

Yesterday we discussed how loving like God loves lessens our anxiety and thus, satisfies us. We said, “Love is giving without an expectation of receiving. It’s what God does. It’s who He is. When we are filled with Him, He enables us to love like He does.” So the question is:

“How do we remain in the circle of God’s love in a world so dominated by selfishness?”

The struggle is real because our enemies are vicious. But it’s not impossible. If you’ve read my testimony or watched the video of my journey on the “a little about me” page of this website, you know that I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior at the age of 23. On that day, God made my spirit alive. And you know from reading my story, my journey to build a relationship with Him took—much longer than I would have liked. You see, at the time I was born again, I did NOT realize that my relationship with God was MORE worth pursuing than anything else in the world.

But we will never discover the appeal of pursuing God until we get to know Him for who He is instead of who WE think He is. The Basic Bible Concepts provide some foundational truths about God, who we are, and what our purpose and destiny is. The Bible gives us God’s perspective. A close relationship with Him merits greater focus and importance than a career, a love relationship, children, friends, material things, sports, popularity, etc.

Only God can keep our soul continually satisfied.

I wish I had understood earlier the immense value that a close relationship with God would add to my life. I spent so many years in pursuit of lesser things—things that were completely incapable keeping my soul continually satisfied. My friend, our enemies will feed us trashy lies until our soul shrivels and becomes completely useless.

God is the greatest friend of our soul.

The more we seek HIM, the less we desire to follow the ways of the enemies of our soul. My friend, begin the journey today to seek God and His ways! You will never regret it! His Word is deep enough to challenge the most intelligent scholar, yet simple enough to be understood by a young child. God’s Word is the “bread of life” and Jesus is the “living water.” Both are necessities for the health of our soul. Jesus said:

“Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.”  Matthew 4:4

We must purposefully seek to feed our soul on God’s Word and drink in His presence. Otherwise, we end up with spiritual anorexia by subsisting on the husks of the world; that is, the pursuit of wealth, relationships, career, family, and crowd-approval. They will not satisfy our soul anymore than our body would be satisfied eating dirt and drinking mud.

Our soul was created to be satisfied by God.

After we are born again, and begin to taste and see that God is good, we grow and heal. As we learn to recognize our necessity for God, it naturally increases the time we spend with Him. He becomes the most integral part in all of our pursuits. He becomes our sustenance for surviving all life’s troubles and enabling us to live in peace, satisfaction, love, power, wisdom, and humility.

I promise, if you seek God with all your heart, soul and mind—you will become addicted to God’s presence because—there is nothing in this world that compares to HIM!

If reading a devotional, the verse of the day, or attending church is the only time you spend with God, then—you may be starving yourself too! God has a nutritional plan to satisfy you and make you strong and healthy. Become completely connected to God as your PRIMARY source of nutrition and He will heal you and make you grow stronger than you ever imagined!

“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.” ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭1:1-3‬ ‭
