How To Get What You Want

Share

want

I have always been pretty good at working hard to get what I want. BUT it’s strange how getting what I want doesn’t always satisfy me. Why not? Because I don’t always want what God wants for me, so—I end up with less than the best. I don’t know about you, but I don’t EVER want to settle for less than the best! God knows this about me, so—He is teaching me a critical lesson about how to get what I want. This is the lesson:

We will never know what will completely satisfy us—until we really know who we are.

When we are born again, our soul and spirit have the genetics of Christ. We are like Him; thus, our inner man desires what God desires and will never be satisfied with anything less. We are a masterpiece.

As God is teaching me who I am in Him—I am learning what HE wants and it is much better than anything I have ever wanted.

This experience is transformative. Instead of scrambling, sweating and fretting to get what I think I want, when I ask God to channel my hard work and energy in the direction of what HE wants, my hard work is multiplied by the wisdom of His ways. When I allow Him to set my goals AND I follow His way to achieve them, He never fails to accomplish His purpose. He knows how to satisfy me; after all, HE made me!

God is teaching me that I get what I want MOST when I want God MORE than I want anything or anyone.

It is such a revelation! The more we seek Him, the more He builds a history of trust which reinforces our hope in Him. We know that He has a plan to fulfill all our deepest desires. God working through us becomes a daily occurrence. In fact, it happens so often, that we lose count of all the ways that He organizes, rearranges, and handles our life. He is magnificent! The Psalmist described this phenomenon:

“But I will hope continually and will praise you yet more and more. My mouth will tell of your righteous acts, of your deeds of salvation all the day, for their number is past my knowledge.

Psalm 71:14-15

God’s achievements through us are so deeply satisfying that we consistently praise Him for the things He does because—-He is constantly blowing our small human mind! The more that we desire God, the more we are not only deeply satisfied, but we also find Him more dependable than anyone else! We become hooked on God’s faithfulness. The Bible confirms this experience:

“And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you.”

Psalm 9:10

“The Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments.” ‭‭

Deuteronomy 7:9

“This I recall to my mind, Therefore I have hope. Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. ‘The Lord is my portion,’ says my soul, ‘Therefore I hope in Him!’ The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him. It is good that one should hope and wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.”

Lamentations 3:21-26

But God’s faithful presence not only completely satisfies us—it also makes us fearless.

God is love and—perfect love casts out fear. (1 John 4:18) God knows the big picture. He has a magnificent plan. He won’t keep it from us. He lets us know as much as we can process at one time. But to know the plan for today, we must…

make the time to grow closer to Him!

After several years of walking with God, my morning quiet time has been the primary place for me to grow closer to Him. Each morning, my unwavering routine is to get a cup of coffee and plan to spend intentional and undistracted time in His presence. It’s the most amazing time of my day. There, in His Word, communicating with Him, drawing close to Him, surrendering to Him, He teaches me, rejuvenates my heart, and strengthens my soul for the day ahead. The closer I get to Him, the more He enlightens me to who I am in Him. I like that person a lot! He reveals His wonderful desires for my life. He fills me with courage, hope, love, joy, wisdom, and peace. He gives me a determination to be all that I can be for His glory. I don’t want to clutter my life with anything that displaces Him. He lines my desires up with His and—I can’t wait to see what He will do with the day!

Let God’s presence fill all of the space in your heart—He will satisfy your deepest desires.

Basic Bible Concepts: Part 9 Spiritual Growth

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you, when they revile and persecute you and say, all kinds of evil against you falsely, for my sake, rejoice and be exceeding. Glad for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” ~Matthew 5:10-12
