I was having my quiet time this morning and I was spending time with my Creator, when he asked me this question, “What is it that you want? What is it that you really want?” If you could have three wishes tell me what they are. What would that look like?” Wow, I started thinking through that carefully, you know as if I were, Aladdin and the genie in the jug popped out and said give me your three wishes, right?
So I want to make sure that they’re the right ones. And it was like God just took me right to this verse to help me understand what that might look like and this is in Matthew 7:7-11.
“He says ask and it will be given to you, seek and you will find, knock and it will be open to you for everyone who asks and he who seeks finds and to him who knocks it will be opened. And what man is there among you who if his son asks for bed will give him a stone or if he asks for a fish will give him a serpent. If you are then being evil. No how to give good gifts to your children. How much more will your father who is in heaven get good, give good gifts to them who seek him.”
And I thought wow, you know God, what does that look like? Because God, if you know me better than I know myself then you need to show me what good gifts look like because clearly I’ve pursued so many things in my life. I’d pursued a marriage and I’ve had a marriage and I pursued children and I have had three wonderful children. I pursued a legal career. Now I have a wonderful legal career. I have pursued building buildings and houses and created beauty around me and all that I’ve done I’m still hungry for more and so I was like God show me what what are all good things what does that look like in your mind because it’s like when my kids were little, they thought the best thing for breakfast was Twinkies, but because of my perspective I know that’s not the best thing for them. Maybe they thought that hanging out with a particular person would make them happy and fulfill their desires, but I know that it won’t or watching a particular movie or whatever it might be.
God has a perspective that is divine. His perspective is far above ours. The Bible says that his ways are far above our ways, his thoughts are far above our thoughts. And so I was like God showed me what I should desire? What are the good things that you want to give me? And you know, it’s interesting because in that prayer he was showing me you need to desire me first. You need to surrender every part of your life to me and then I will bring you all the good things that I have planned for you because then you will have the perspective of understanding what is good instead of the serpent. Instead of giving the things that are not good in this life that are not gonna satisfy you, I will give you the good things that will satisfy you and true satisfaction true eternal understanding. You will find a satisfaction deeper than any well that you can imagine, deeper than the ocean, higher than the mountains. It’ll be better than any relationship you’ve ever had. It will be better than any experience you’ve ever had because that’s how God Made You.
So, I hope this encourages you. It certainly has encouraged me this morning. I’m just so grateful that God continues to work on me and work in me. Have a good day everyone.
