How to Build Unwavering Confidence

Because my work sometimes brings me in contact with very powerful people, it can often be intimidating and—many times I handle this by talking with great bravado or even— cockiness. In fact, I found myself doing this just the other day when I was trying to impress a powerful and wealthy business acquaintance with my courtroom acumen.

Why?

Well—duh—so he would be impressed!

Later I realized how foolish and unseemly this behavior was and wished I hadn’t talked such big smack. And it’s funny—I didn’t feel any more confident than I had before I said anything. In fact, I felt LESS confident and I’ll tell you why. My words were not glorifying God, who gives me breath, brains, and every skill and resource I possess. My self-serving braggadocio never earns me respect AND does not help me build confidence in myself.

If anything, boasting only—DIMINISHES my confidence.

WHY is this???

Well, the Bible explains it quite clearly:

“God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.”

‭‭James‬ ‭4:6

Pride places us in opposition with God.

Pride does nothing to help us.

Pride hurts us.

Aren’t these three good reasons to AVOID pride?

And—if that’s not enough…keep in mind that God is our greatest resource for all of our most remarkable achievements. He has a plan. He has the strength. He has the wisdom. And when we know Him, we find…

GOD’s presence is our GREATEST source of confidence!

When we SEEK His truth, RESPECT Him, and LOVE Him…the Bible promises:

The Lord is NEAR to all who call upon Him, To all who call upon Him in truth.

He will FULFILL the desire of those who fear Him; He also will hear their cry and SAVE them.

The Lord PRESERVES all who love Him.

(‭‭Psalms‬ ‭145:18-20‬)

Isn’t it amazing how God’s presence gives us ALL the confidence we need?
