Almost everyone I know is “too busy,” because they are working all the time. I’m not gonna lie, it’s hard NOT to be a slave to a job I really love. But, slowly [and sometimes painfully] God has been drawing me to cool my jets on the number of hours I spend working in my law office. This is for a very good reason. God wants me to see His power AND have His blessings from the work He has given me. I’ll miss it all if I’m too busy working and doing life my own way.
I’ll never “get ahead” by working just to make more money; I’ll simply be…a slave.
It’s interesting, that even most billionaires are still slaves to their work. In a Forbes Magazine article “Why Do The Mega Rich Continue to Work,” Larissa Faw, wrote: “Despite the fact they have more than enough money to spend the rest of their lives on their yachts, many mega-rich professionals devote more than 40 hours a week in jobs that are oftentimes banal and stressful.” www.Forbes.com.
It seems incredibly foolish to invest the majority of our life in something we will NEVER have the time to enjoy!
Doesn’t it make much more sense to invest in something you will actually get to enjoy? So…who do you trust for sound investment advice? Do you trust God’s Word? If you DO, are you curious to know what He says about the relationship between money and satisfaction?
“He who loves money will NOT be satisfied with money, nor he who loves wealth with his income; this also is vanity.”
Ecclesiastes 5:10 https://bible.com/bible/59/ecc.5.10.ESV
It seems foolish to work hard all of your life just—to NEVER be happy—doesn’t it? It seems much like drinking salt water if you’re thirsty. But you may say, “Kimberly, I have to work to take care of myself and my family.” True. God created work to provide for our fleshly needs…but also…to satisfy our soul. But we can’t do both if ALL we focus on—is getting more stuff. We’re born with a thirst for accomplishment, but we need to learn God’s way in order to find that satisfaction. We need to quench our thirst by drinking fresh water and not salt water.
So…what ELSE does GOD say about work?
From the beginning, God created us to work:
“The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to WORK it and keep it.”
Genesis 2:15 https://bible.com/bible/59/gen.2.15.ESV.
Jesus and the Heavenly Father work:
“But Jesus answered them, “My Father is working until now, and I am working.” J
ohn 5:17 https://bible.com/bible/59/jhn.5.17.ESV
I believe that in the New Heavens and the New earth, we will be working because—we were created in the image of God—who is working. [Note to my clients: No one will need a lawyer then, so I plan to be an architect.] 😊 So, if God works…what does that look like? Well, we know what He’s NOT doing; that is, He’s not working just to make more money or own more real estate. In fact, God warns us of the dangers of money for money’s sake:
“What will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?”
Mark 8:36 https://bible.com/bible/114/mrk.8.36.NKJV.
“The LOVE of money is the root of all evil.”
1 Timothy 6:10
Jesus kind of dumbed it down for us about money. If we are working for God, it brings glory to Him; if we’re working for money—we’re simply a slave:
“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.”
Matthew 6:24 https://bible.com/bible/59/mat.6.24.ESV.
Paul explained that our work enables us to be—doubly blessed!
“Servants, obey in everything those who are your earthly masters, not only when their eyes are on you as pleasers of men, but in simplicity of purpose [with all your heart] because of your reverence for the Lord and as a sincere expression of your devotion to Him. Whatever may be your task, work at it heartily (from the soul), as [something done] for the Lord and not for men, Knowing [with all certainty] that it is from the Lord [and not from men] that you will receive the inheritance which is your [real] reward. [The One Whom] you are actually serving [is] the Lord Christ (the Messiah).”
Colossians 3:22-24 https://bible.com/bible/8/col.3.22-24.AMPC.
Jesus shared with us the SECRET of how our earthly work can become an eternal investment!
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
Matthew 6:19-21 https://bible.com/bible/114/mat.6.19-21.NKJV
When our work is for the glory of God, we are laying a foundation for an eternal inheritance.

Thank you so much. Your advise is on point, and your writing like a river pulling us gently down the stream. I am so grateful for all the wonderful sisters and brothers God has in his kingdom, and his words that take us there.
To God be the glory, brother! Have a blessed day.
