Living in the righteousness of God unchains the power of His Spirit within you. Maybe you say, “Kimberly, how can we chain God? If He is truly omnipotent, He can’t be chained.” Well, that’s true but…I’m talking about HIS power being manifested in YOU. If you are trying to move a dirt pile and never get the key to the dozer out of your pocket, then YOU will not be engaging the power of the machine to move the dirt pile. Make sense? So ask yourself…
…is there evidence in your life that you are experiencing the phenomenal power of GOD?
Or, is everything you are accomplishing easily attributable to your OWN power?
It is unfortunate that I lived most of my Christian life without experiencing the supernatural power of God. All my work and success was easily written up to “elbow grease” and “stubborn determination,” or…something like that. What a waste of God’s power! How did I finally get out of this cycle and take the key out of my pocket to engage the power of Almighty God? Well, unfortunately…
…I had to be taken captive by the enemy of sin before I realized how little power I possess—without God.
I thought I was fairly powerful because I had forgotten…
“HE is before all things, and by HIM all things consist.”
Colossians 1:17
I didn’t realize that God is the reason I can do the most basic tasks like…breathing and thinking! But I had a mindset that I was so powerful without Him. This is such a silly notion! And, it is this same wrong thinking that makes us powerless Christians. We like to blame the enemy for our powerlessness. But the sad truth is, we are often powerless before the enemy even lifts a finger against us.
Our powerlessness begins in our heart and mind.
How? It’s almost always a subtle process. We begin our Christian life on fire for God. But then slowly, the cares of the world choke out our pursuit of God. Everything else becomes more important than Him.
How this happens is well-illustrated in the Old Testament because it was a constant cycle with the nation of Israel.
During the 600 years before Christ, the Jewish people were caught in yet another cycle of powerlessness, but they lost God’s power long before the Babylonians conquered them. It began when they abandoned God in their heart. For the nation of Israel, it always seemed to take physical slavery to wake them up enough to acknowledge their desperate need for God. [I think we’re more like them than we care to acknowledge.] After the Babylonian captivity, God’s message through Zerubbabel, who was the leader of the first wave of Jews to come out of captivity, was a reminder of Who they needed MOST—in order to be TRULY powerful!
“Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of hosts.”
(Zechariah 4:6)
God was pointing them back to Himself. As exiled slaves, their plight was so helpless it seemed impossible that their city or temple could ever be rebuilt.
God made it clear that—it WAS possible—but NOT without HIM.
This is a powerful reminder for us! We, too, are powerless without God. But, my friend, God has a powerful plan for each one of our lives!!! When He is Lord of your life, you no longer have to rely on your own strength. When He is King of your heart, His Spirit empowers you to do what seems impossible. And, when you discover the thrill of God’s power, your heart longs to continually acknowledge and worship Him as King of your life.
“Do not trust in oppression, Nor vainly hope in robbery; If riches increase, Do not set your heart on them. God has spoken once, Twice I have heard this: That power belongs to God.”
Psalms 62:10-11
Make God the King of your heart, and you will experience the kind of power that will continually blow your mind!
