How Much Joy Will You Miss Today If Your Life Is Controlled By Your Feelings?

Our feelings can have so much power over us that if we don’t consistently give them to God, we may miss much of the joy He has planned for us!

Come on, admit it—when someone sends you a snarky text, posts a disparaging comment, or even worse—ignores you—your world can quickly fall into a funk. Your day goes from good to bad like a brick through a plate glass window. Children of God are not exempt from being controlled in the powerful grip of negative feelings! EXCEPT we don’t HAVE to be—because we possess a greater force to influence our life and it is—God’s love. His love never changes because HE never changes. (James‬ 1‬:17‬) ‬‬‬‬‬

Experiencing the radically transformational love of God provides a foundation that is not easily shaken by circumstantial feelings.

My friend, God’s love for you does not change just because your feelings do. God prepared a plan for you before you even had feelings.

“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”

Ephesians‬ 2‬:10

Because of God’s love, you have the opportunity to be part of His timeless plan.

“But the plans of the Lord stand firm forever, the purposes of His heart through all generations.”

Psalms‬ 33‬:11‬

God ALWAYS keeps His Word. You can always count on Him.

“This God—His way is perfect; the word of the Lord proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him. For who is God, but the Lord? And who is a rock, except our God?”

Psalms 18‬:30-31

You don’t doubt the sunshine just because its warmth is blotted out by clouds and—you shouldn’t doubt God—Who created the sunshine!

So when the storm cloud of negative feelings overshadows your life and begin to make you feel miserable, give those burdens to God and—DON’T take them back! Remind yourself of the TRUTH that the SON is shining behind those clouds. Nothing changes WHO God is and WHAT He does.

“I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.”

Jeremiah‬ ‭31:3‬

If you’re struggling with feelings of hopelessness, rejection, despair, sadness, or whatever negative thoughts are assailing you—speak God’s promises. Remind yourself of what He has done for you. Remind yourself of the promises to come. Your feelings are temporary; God’s commitment to you is everlasting.

We are far more blessed to live in the unfailing promises of God than in the crazy, tumultuous world of our feelings.

God’s promises are far more trustworthy than our feelings.

God is—greater than the sun that you know will rise today and kiss the earth—rest in HIS presence, and you will capture every precious moment He has planned for you today!

Basic Bible Concepts: Part 9 Spiritual Growth

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you, when they revile and persecute you and say, all kinds of evil against you falsely, for my sake, rejoice and be exceeding. Glad for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” ~Matthew 5:10-12
