What to do on those days when you feel like you’ve done nothing but spin your wheels, you are exhausted, and life seems meaningless? Like what’s all the struggle for anyway? You don’t have to live many years to experience exhausting despair! But thanks be to God—He has written an owner’s manual for our life! And not only that, but when we surrender to Him for salvation, we are made ALIVE in Christ and are enabled to hear Him speak to us! When we 100% belong to Him, we love Him and we value His Word as priceless because we know all the answers to every problem are in it.
God longs to give us the wisdom to handle each circumstance and He gives us His presence so that no matter how difficult things get—we KNOW our life is ALWAYS making a difference!!!
Living victoriously is not a one-off. It’s a journey. Like you, I am constantly confronting situations where I feel completely helpless and I say: “God, I don’t have the answers and I don’t have the strength—please take over!” This is a good place to be. In fact, it’s where I should ALWAYS live—even in great circumstances. I don’t have to be in control. God is much better at my life than I am. So to live in victory, I must be determined to have the gloriously superior mind of Christ and place Him in full control!
Having a “mind of Christ mentality” cannot come from us—it must come from His Word. God keeps reminding me of this verse:
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your BODIES a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be TRANSFORMED by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
Romans 12:1-2
When we are constantly being transformed by renewing our mind to God’s way of thinking, we are never defeated. Why??? GOD IS NEVER DEFEATED. When we are born again, our soul and spirit are already “in Christ” and thus, are holy. But our body is a mess. It wants what it wants and—it’s NEVER good. It wants to be driven by feelings. But FEELINGS cannot be the gauge of the true REALITY for our life, otherwise we will be controlled by unhealthy emotions, instead of living in the victory of knowing God and becoming HIS masterpiece.
When we are born again, we must remind ourselves that we possess this amazing “fullness of the Godhead!”
“As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so WALK in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving. BEWARE lest anyone CHEAT you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and NOT according to CHRIST. For in HIM dwells ALL the fullness of the Godhead bodily; and you are complete in Him, who is the head of ALL principality and power.”
Colossians 2:6-10
Wow! If the Bible is true, then we, as God’s children, can be completely filled with the most powerful force on earth—Jesus Christ! How then, can we EVER live defeated? If we ARE living in defeat, then it’s possible we are simply ignorant of WHO lives in us. But it’s more likely—we’re simply running from Him because we are afraid of the cost of submission. But—what a horrible trade-off—giving up God—to live in despair.
To live undefeated, we must yield every part of our life to God—our family, job, love life, finances, social media…everything!
When our heart is humble, Christ’s power is manifested within us because only a humble heart has the ability to understand our desperate need for Him. The deeper we walk with Christ and learn His Word, the more “rooted and built up in Him.” God’s Word is mind-fuel for our soul and spirit and it strengthens our connection with Almighty God so we can overcome ALL our enemies.
As we pursue a relationship with God—He roots us like a mighty oak. He establishes us in wisdom far beyond our own. He makes us stronger than we EVER have been without Him. We live unshaken and undefeated. The ONLY reason we EVER feel defeated is when we have strayed from total dependence upon God. To live in victory is to live like God is our oxygen.
“Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”
Psalms 73:25-26
