Imagine the wealthiest person in the world, someone who lives a life of opulence and has minimal financial worries. It is natural to assume that their day-to-day existence would be filled with luxury and that financial setbacks would be of little consequence to them. However, imagine this same individual becoming deeply disheartened over losing a few pennies. How could this even occur? The answer lies in a lost perspective. They have forgotten the value of their great treasure.
As God’s born-again children, we often do this too! We let the small troubles of this world-the “few pennies”-steal the joy of our salvation. The worst TROUBLE for any human is to die without knowing Christ and be condemned to eternal separation from God. Therefore, the greatest TREASURE is to trust Christ as Lord and Savior and have HIM secure our destiny—right?
The gift of salvation is worth more than ALL of the treasure in the entire world.
My friend, this world is full of trouble; however, when we live in the light of Christ, we not only LIVE in hope, but we GIVE hope to others. Paul the Apostle gave us some remarkable words of encouragement:
“Therefore, since we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we do not lose heart. But we have RENOUNCED the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness nor handling the word of God deceitfully, but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God. But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.”
II Corinthians 4:1-4
When those who are born again choose to live after the ways of the world, instead of adhering to the ways of God’s Word, the Gospel is being HIDDEN from those who are condemned to eternal death.
The Gospel is the POWER of God that draws people to receive His gift of salvation!
Christ’s presence is the priceless treasure we carry in our mortal bodies!
“But we have this TREASURE in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us.”
II Corinthians 4:7
Sure, this life can be hard! But it is even harder for people who do NOT have Jesus living in them. They must fend for themselves—without the supernatural power of God to carry them through. How tragic! Meanwhile, we who have been born again have the Creator of ALL—living with us.
Oh, my friend, Jesus is our great treasure!
The entire point of our short, physical life upon this earth is to manifest HIM and share the hope HE gives to the lost and dying world. It is their only hope!
“We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed— always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body. For we who live are always delivered to death for Jesus’ sake, that the LIFE of JESUS also may be manifested in our mortal flesh.”
II Corinthians 4:8-11
Our earthen vessel (our physical body) is most beautiful, most strong, and put to the greatest use when people can look at us and see Jesus.
