What does it mean to live an extraordinary life?
I was reading about Taylor Swift’s record-breaking sell out concerts. The long lines to buy crazy-expensive tickets are mind boggling. If an “extraordinary life” is defined by pop culture standards, Taylor Swift’s journey would definitely be it. She skyrocketed from obscurity to nearly unparalleled fame. Since her first Grammy nomination in 2008, she has won a whopping 11 Grammys. In 2022 alone, she was recognized with six American Music Awards (Artist of the Year, Country Female Artist, Pop/Rock Female Artist, Music Video, Country Album & Pop Album), three People’s Choice Awards (Album Of The Year, Best Music Video & Female Artist of The Year), and….the list literally goes on and on.
It seems she is living an extraordinary life by anyone’s standards, right? I mean, who wouldn’t want her life? She has more money than she can spend, she’s at the top of the music industry, she’s beautiful, talented, has her choice of men, and she seemingly wants for nothing. Her music speaks to many people because the lyrics recite the very common experiences we have with love and heartbreak. But—she is human—just like you and me. She has many of the same hopes and fears.
Do you think that someone famous or wealthy represents the type of “extraordinary” that GOD has planned for YOU?
The answer is in God’s Word. He has plans for us that are greater than we can “ask for or imagine.” (Ephesians 1:20) What is the greatest plan you have for your own life? Can you even fathom that GOD has an even GREATER plan??? My friend, the fact is, that in order to discover GOD’S version of “extraordinary” for our own life, we must be in an active relationship with HIM. We must endeavor [work hard] to have our mind enlightened to Him. This means we work at the relationship every day!
It’s in the relationship with God that we CAN experience what Paul prayed for the Ephesians to have:
“that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of WISDOM and REVELATION in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being ENLIGHTENED; that you may know what is the HOPE of His calling, what are the RICHES of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His POWER toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places,”
Ephesians 1:17-20
When I begin to ask myself if my life is extraordinary, and IF I compare myself to someone like Taylor Swift in order to measure my extraordinariness (or lack thereof) I need to be reminded: I’m measuring myself by the wrong standard. God’s riches, power, and wisdom are eternal. Who I allow myself to become IN HIM makes an ETERNAL difference in my life as well as the lives of others. What good is worldly fame or power if it does not draw people INTO a relationship with God and away FROM the eternal chasm of hell? We ALL (including human icons)—die once—and then we get no more opportunities to make a difference.
What difference will you make today?
Ah, my friend, EACH person who is born again, possesses the power that raised Christ from the dead. He empowers us to live a life that is so powerful, so full of hope, and so wise that it can change the eternal destiny of our family, our children, our friends and our community—indeed, the world! Christ in us can touch lives for eternity. He will outlast the greatest, richest, and most popular of all humans.
Seize the day, my friend. Draw close to God because HE has a plan for you to live an extraordinary life that is greater than you can ask for or even imagine!
