A Life-Changing Prayer

One of the most life-changing prayers I’ve ever prayed is this:

“Oh Lord, reveal Yourself to me!”

I pray it consistently. I pray it passionately. I want to know God better today than I did yesterday.

Why such a passion to truly know God?

Let me give you just a few of my experiences with God.

Without Him, my life was a wreck. Even my best moments without Him were painfully average. Without Him, I knew I was created for supernatural greatness, but I was trapped in a rat race. Maybe you feel this, too. But in His presence, my life is infused with divine purpose, supernatural power, and soul-deep satisfaction.

The better I know God, the more I love who He made me to be. I used to exhaust myself trying to measure up to the world’s definition of “perfect.” But that’s a moving target—shaped by pop culture’s constantly shifting standards. When I draw near to God, His light gives me the wisdom to let go of anything that doesn’t make me whole. I am beautiful in His sight because I am His. I’ve been born into His family. And there’s such sweet relief in that promise.

When I am close to God, I can look into the mirror of His Word and see clearly what I need to change without feeling unloved.

The closer I get to God, the more I experience His peace. This is a peace that makes no sense in this anxious, angry world. This is a peace that replaces the sleepless nights and miserable days. It is a peace that comes only from the Prince of Peace!

I gain wisdom that surpasses my own understanding and power that is clearly not my own. It is obvious that I could never manufacture either on my own because God’s wisdom and power come from Him. This isn’t esoteric. This is my daily life with Him.

My friend, I could tell you story after story, but every story would eventually lead back to this: It is glorious to know God for who He really is.

There is always more to say about the goodness of His presence! The Apostle Paul understood this so well. He prayed for the believers in Ephesus:

“That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him.” Ephesians 1:17

When we know God, we receive His wisdom and revelation. Paul didn’t stop there. He went on to pray:

“That the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places.” Ephesians 1:18–20

Do you see the staggering power of this prayer? When we grow in our knowledge of God, we gain everything we are desperate to have because knowing God changes our desires. Like water in the desert—through our relationship with Him—we tap into everything our soul has ever longed for. And don’t miss this—Paul says the same power that raised Jesus from the dead is working in us! Most of the power we see in this world is power to destroy. But God’s power gives life and life abundantly.

When we walk in relationship with Him, the eyes of our understanding are enlightened. His presence transforms us from the inside out.

When God becomes our greatest desire, life is no longer a collection of random moments—our life becomes a masterpiece of Heaven.

The deeper I know God, the more I treasure the relationship itself—even more than the blessings that come with it. But make no mistake—the blessings are great. And when you experience God like this, you won’t want to do anything that distances you from Him. You’ll want more. You’ll want all of Him.

Knowing God changes everything.

Reflection Thought:

What is holding you back from truly knowing God more deeply? Are you willing to consistently pray, “Lord, reveal Yourself to me,” and pursue Him as your greatest desire?

Closing Prayer:

Lord, I want to know You more. Please reveal Yourself to me in deeper, richer ways. Open the eyes of my understanding. Give me the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of You. Let me treasure You above every blessing. Let me pursue You above every distraction. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
