Are You Enjoying The Riches God Has For You?

As I was in the New Testament portion of my Bible read through this morning, the words of Jesus excited me as I was about to begin my day. God’s Word encouraged me to remember that His great riches are already mine; but I must learn how to properly possess them.

Because I am born again through Christ, I already HOLD God’s greatest riches in my hands; but I’m not ENJOYING them unless I’m giving them away!

Let’s look at the Words of Jesus:

And He [Jesus] said to them,

“Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.”

Then He spoke a parable to them, saying:

The ground of a certain rich man yielded plentifully. And he thought within himself, saying,

“What shall I do, since I have no room to store my crops?”

So he said,

“I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build greater, and there I will store all my crops and my goods. And I will say to my soul, ‘Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry.'”

But God said to him,

“FOOL! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?”

[Then Jesus said:]

“So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is NOT rich toward God.”

‭‭Luke‬ ‭12‬:‭15‬-‭21‬ ‭‬‬

When I read that last verse and it blew me away! Like most people, my primary mindset each day gravitates towards doing what I need to in order to make a comfortable living for myself, save some money, and even—give some to help others. BUT—what does it mean to be “rich toward God?” Well, what is the most precious gift on earth that God has given us? Is it money? Is it time? Ah, Jesus told us in the previous chapter, when He said:

“If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the HOLY SPIRIT to those who ask Him!”

‭‭Luke‬ ‭11‬:‭13‬ ‭‬‬

The Spirit of God is our greatest GIFT from GOD! HIS presence is precious. How much value we give to this immense gift is reflected in the time and resources we dedicate to LIVING IN the Spirit. Jesus said, to live mostly preoccupied with physical riches is to live like a FOOL. Thus, to truly enjoy the riches of God’s Spirit, we must FIRST retrain our mind to think differently. Our greatest riches are NOT the things that pass away. When we comprehend the priceless value of our relationship with God and His Word, cultivating this gift becomes our greatest priority. Then, SECOND, when we understand that the perfect richness of God is found within HIM—we become active in putting those riches to work. How? We give them away! Out of our life pours the fruits of God’s Spirit: “love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” Galatians‬ ‭5‬:‭22‬-‭23‬ ‬‬

A gift is always enjoyed more when we’re sharing it with others.

When we are rich with God’s presence, our physical riches produce eternal treasures.

Basic Bible Concepts: Part 9 Spiritual Growth

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you, when they revile and persecute you and say, all kinds of evil against you falsely, for my sake, rejoice and be exceeding. Glad for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” ~Matthew 5:10-12
